Just Think For Yourself

A poem from Shel Silverstein‘s forthcoming (and posthumous) book Every Thing On It

The Yesees said yes to anything
That anyone suggested.
The Noees said no to everything
Unless it was proven and tested.
So the Yesees all died of much too much
And the Noees all died of fright,
But somehow I think the Thinkforyourselfees
All came out all right.

Good poem, helped by the “DATE CHRISTIAN GIRLS” Advert right next to it, haha.

Yeah…she looks like she goes to church…I bet she does a lot of ‘missionary style’ work…wink, wink, nudge, nudge!!

So unfair.  I didn’t get a gorgeous guy ad. I got Ron Paul pledge to the  money bomb.

I remember reading some Shel Silverstein poems when I was younger.  (I think it was when I was in elementary and/or middle school) and I’ve really been meaning to get some of his books to read more.  Thanks very much for posting this!

I love Shel Silverstein. I had no idea a new book was being published. I think I already own all of the previously published books. Can’t wait to get this one.

I do not understand why the Noees died of fright.

Agreed. It would make more sense if they were like the equal and opposite of the Yesees… said no to anything anyone suggested (regardless of whether it was proven or tested).

I don’t get it either. Somehow critical thinking is just as damaging as accepting everything as truth? The Thinkforyourselfees sound like they make decisions on emotion rather than evidence. When people like that get together they have a mob mentality and that never turns out all right.

I hated the Giving Tree. One of my wife’s friends gave it to us a long time ago and it quickly found a home in the recycling bin. It was too codependty for my tastes. However, my kids and I do like the his poetry book.
