Let the Quicksand Take You Under

David Hayward pretty much speaks for anyone who’s ever had doubts about their faith:

Unlike actual drowning, though, this will end well. The more questions you have, the better.

Maybe Hayward should’ve drawn a pastor instead of a person — they’re the ones who can’t handle the constant barrage of challenges.

Maybe for pastors or evangelical leaders he could have used dollar signs instead question marks. Snake oil salesmen behind stained glass.

Maybe Hayward should’ve drawn a pastor instead of a person…

Vicious. You’re not living up to your adjective today.

My youngest daughter has earned the ire of her Ethics and Philosophy (RE) teacher by asking all kinds of awkward questions.  I’m so proud of her.  I’ll be sure to help out with some of my own from now on.

Questions are good.  Carl Sagan said “If we long for our planet to be important, there is something we can do about it. We make our world significant by the courage of our questions and by the depth of our answers.”  I rather think that he had a good point.

“Maybe Hayward should’ve drawn a pastor instead of a person ”

Pastors aren’t people? Talk about dehumanizing your opponents!

  • i know what he means. and i get it. because i was one.

  • You know full well what he meant. “instead of just a person”. Stop being obtuse and needlessly confrontational. Same goes for you, too, Reginald.

  • I enjoy and admire your work, David.

You think you are drowning in questions, but eventually you realize the questions are actually lifelines that rescue you from the religious mire.

You know what he meant, and even if he didn’t, what’s the problem? Someone who takes pride in being friendly and approachable can’t make a pointed joke? Because that seems to be an unnecessary limitation. Do you want a blogger or a flight attendant?

  • Oh, the pastors can answer it.

    “MOAR FAITH!”
