A New Kind of Reparative Therapy: Fixing Monosexuality

The folks at Mr. Deity are trying a little something different this week, by highlighting a type of therapy I knew nothing about… until now. It’s part of a series called “Way of the Mister” (a play on Ray Comfort‘s show).

My favorite line: “If you’re gonna buy a lottery ticket and someone says to you, ‘Hey, I have a way for you to double your odds,’ are you just gonna blow them off?”

    Brian gets the creepy smile exactly right. Probably one of their best videos, though I pity them the number of actual “reparative therapy” videos they must of had to watch in order to get the satire down that well.

    I think I’ve figured out the problem with it. To be a really good satire of “reparative therapy”, we should have the sense that the people are all trying hard and perhaps have convinced themselves that it’s working but they are obviously getting nowhere with it (just like the real thing). But it seems like this version actually works, at least somewhat (i.e. Shermer’s cameo), or that the underlying theory is true (the *ahem* reaction of the reporter at the end). Cute concept though.

    there are two sorts of people in this world. those with “chances” and those with “certainty, but selection” on a Saturday night. this explains much about Mr. Allen, as well as many bi and queer folk.

    I thought Shermer’s bit was a stroke of genius. Along with the bit where Brain Dalton asks Sean Douglas if he never looks at the mirror and gets aroused.
