Celebrating Carl Sagan Day in Chicago

Next week (Nov. 9th) marks Carl Sagan Day and there are celebratory events taking place all over the country.

In Chicago, on Nov. 12th, a number of local freethought groups are co-sponsoring an event downtown (at the Lurie Medical Research Center of Northwestern University) that sounds terrific — a panel discussion on “Science, Skepticism, and the Legacy of Carl Sagan,” food (apple pie, from scratch!), and drinks (Cosmos, of course, for those 21 and older!).

More details are here. Did I mention the whole event is free? COME! I’m hoping to drop by as soon as my Speech Team’s tournament is over :)

    The actual date of Carl Sagan Day is the 9th, it’s just that the Chicago event is on the 12th (weekends are easier for big events).

    I’ll be in Chicago for a visit starting November 17.  I’ll have just missed it.

    There’s a thread on apple pies in the forum if anyone wants to add their own recipes.  We assume that the universe already exists so you don’t need quite that much detail. ;)

    Sagan was accused by some of being “obsessed with reality.”

    Specifically to Shepard Fairey.  Also well known for the Andre the Giant OBEY poster/graffiti.  What’s neat is if you looks *really* close at some versions of the HOPE poster, there’s a little Andre in the star pin.
