Can You Help Her Out?

Tiffany, a young leader in the secular community in Michigan, could use some help right now. Her mother has cancer but no health insurance. Tiffany is trying to raise money to help cover some medical costs and explains the situation here (PDF):

My mother has cancer. She is 500 miles away from me (Northern VA and I’m in Michigan) and I feel helpless and hopeless. The prognosis is 2-3 more years, but I fear it won’t be that long. It’s in her throat, her tongue, her mouth and spreading. She can barely speak, and all I can do is talk to her on the phone, rambling and telling her stories without a reply. I send her text message pictures of her grandson, and hope she smiles when she sees them. I will never hear her voice as I remembered it again.

I’m a realist, I’m rational, and I don’t expect a miracle. What I do want, more than anything, is this amazing caring woman who raised me to live out the rest of her life relatively pain free in safe surroundings.

If you can help, please go to PayPal and send whatever you can to the email provided in the letter. (There’s no direct link right now.)

In case you’re wondering if this is for real, Ed Brayton at Freethought Blogs knows her personally and encourages any generosity you can spare.

I lost my mother to cancer and I would help if I could but I’m hurting as well when it comes to money.

Tiffany, my mother is fighting stage 4 cancer as well, and I cannot imagine watching her do so without health insurance.  What little is saved in my PayPal account couldn’t go to a more noble cause.  I wish you both the best, and please know, for what it’s worth, our Friendly community is thinking of you, and strides are being made in cancer research every day.  Stay strong!

Let’s dig deep guys.  It doesn’t do us any good to talk about how religion hardens hearts if we don’t help out our own in a time of need.

    All,
Your words help as well as monetary funds. I cannot thank everyone enough for their generosity and kindness.  I promise this to everyone: I will thank all of you personally in some way soon. This means so much to me-I cannot adequately express what it means to my family and I.  Soon.  Thank you again. I love this strong, wonderful caring community I am part of!

I’m sorry to hear that your mom is so ill.  I could’t seem to use paypal so thank you for providing an address.  I am putting a check in the mail.

    Done.

The link was not working, but simply going to paypal directly and then specifying Tiffany (tewigleben@gmail.com) as the recipient worked just fine.  My thoughts and best wishes go out to your mom, to you and to your entire family!
