The Mohawk of Reason

Back in my day, campus atheist groups were lucky to get one big speaker to come to their school over the course of a year.

Now, some college groups are putting on events like Skepticon and not even charging an entrance fee. It’s awe-inspiring how far they’ve come.

Whenever these student-run conferences happen — and more are happening each year — they deserve our support. (Perhaps even moreso when it happens in the Bible Belt.)

At the University of Kansas, the Society of Open-Minded Atheists & Agnostics (SOMA) is holding it’s second annual ReasonFest on February 11th-12th. Speakers include Jennifer Michael Hecht, Jamila Bey, Greg Epstein, and Darrel Ray. (I’m sooooo sad I can’t come this year, but it’s right in the middle of the Speech Team’s postseason.)

They need some financial support to make the event happen, so if you can chip in, that’d help them out tremendously. Michaelyn Everhart has even put her hair on the line! She’ll have it cut into a mohawk if SOMA can raise $1,000 by January 24th. Make that happen!
