    Can’t wait……

I would be excited, but I can never go to these things. Seriously, it’s just a thing I read about on here one day and forget about the next.

  • Emileigh Clare

    I’ll be there! Can’t wait.

  • Nicole Harris

Any idea on where in Richmond it is?   Wondering if I’ll see it on my commute.  Or if it’ll get vandalized.

  • Shelley Mountjoy

The billboard is on 64 West (before the Staples Mill exit) – Right hand side.

  • Chandlerps

It’s gone now, by the way. Doesn’t look good for us.

  • Shelley Mountjoy

What do you mean?  Are you sure you looked at the correct billboard?  There are two on that side of the highway.

  • Joe Turner Jr.

Very excited to actually be going to something like this.

    Looks nice. Excited.

I would have considered “a God” or “Gods”. (Always weird when it wouldn’t take a critic much effort to read it as if we know that Yahweh exists, but we just don’t need him.) It can be tough to get across that it’s mythology being treated as reality that we’re objecting to.

First, AWESOME billboard for what will be an AWESOME event.

Secondly, I agree with you about the “God” vs. “gods” term. I think that when atheists define themselves as not believing in God it is subconsciously conceding that the debate is about whether Yes or No does their one God exist (rather than pointing out there are LOTS of godS and  we don’t believe in ANY of them).

  • Anonymous-Sam

To be fair, when’s the last time you heard about a Hindu, Buddhist or Shinto practitioner claiming the moral right over atheists in the US?

  • GodVlogger (on YouTube)

To be fair, I’ll say again that I am a *fan* of this atheist billboard (and practically every other atheist billboard that I have even seen).

But the issue of believing in ‘gods’ vs. ‘God’ is a subtle but important point.

    Here’s a comparison:
It would be like someone trying to convince me that vanilla was the best flavor of ice cream by pointing out that I am allergic to chocolate, and thus vanilla MUST be my favorite. It creates a false dichotomy, i.e. ignoring that there are more than just two options here. Maybe my favorite ice cream will be strawberry, or pecan, or blueberry, or one of dozens of other flavors, or maybe I don’t like ANY ice cream at all. But if I had conceded that the choice was just limited to *either* chocolate or vanilla, I would have made it a *LOT* easier for the guy arguing for vanilla.

Atheists do not just lack a belief in the Christian God, or the Muslim God, or the Jewish God…  by definition we atheists do not believe in ANY gods at all.

But enough said…. back to the more pressing topic… the billboard is awesome and the Reason Rally should be a wonderful event, worth attending.

I’ve just never liked any form of that phrase.  I think that in the eyes of a believer, the phrase “living without God” reaffirms their belief that we acknowledge the existence of God, yet CHOOSE to live without him.

  • Jay Arrrr

Wonder how long before it’s vandalized?

  • Andrew Hall

    Looking forward to the event!

  • Lindatseed

    I am getting very excited!!!

Looks like i’ll be traveling with a bus full of godless heathens. Can’t wait. :)

So awesome that we finally have these types of ads in Richmond! What street is it on? I want to go find it!

  • Johann

I’ve heard that apparently the Tea Party is also planning a gathering on the Mall on the same day as we are. Anyone have information on that?

  • Hemant Mehta

The tea party website says their rally is miles away! So it shouldn’t be an issue…

  • Elizabeth

Finally an atheist billboard I really like! Happy message, advertising a real event where people can connect. Wish I could be at the rally.

  • Trobin330

Any idea when the actual schedule will be posted Hemant?

  • Hemant Mehta

Coming soon. Hopefully by the end of the week!

  • Tiffany

I want to know where this billboard is so that I can go and see it! It’s killing me that I can’t go to the rally, but I am so excited for this to happen!

Somewhat OT, but I’d like to see if I can get this going as a viral idea. Suggest improvements, please:

Q: What do you call the poor man’s/Flintstones’/etc. Siri?

    A: God.

Anotherreason to attend: Westboro Baptist Church will be there

I find myself wishing Adam Savage would prepare an extra special surprise for them. Something like a big mechanical arm which flips the birdie.

I hate to do this but, i’m scared that this event is going to be a damp squib & give all our detractors the perfect opportunity to say “See there’s not enough of you to worry about”. There wasn’t enough notice given of this, i would have liked to attend (I’m in UK) but i can’t raise the cash & make arrangements to get there in such a short time. Now if someone tells me it’s been arranged  for ages then they didn’t do enough early on to promote it. I so hope i’m wrong & the recent news that Eddie Izzard will be appearing makes me even more jealous that i won’t be going. I hope everyone who does go has a great day but unless we can get 100.000 people there it’s going to be seen as irrelevant by the press & our enemies. I WONT be prayin’ for ya! lol
