Welton Gaddy Calls Out Santorum-Supporting ‘Christian Nation’ Reverend

In case you missed it last night, the always amazing Rev. Welton Gaddy of the Interfaith Alliance spoke with Rachel Maddow about Rev. Dennis Terry‘s introduction of Rick Santorum at a campaign event.

Terry spoke in favor of a “Christian Nation,” adding that anyone who didn’t accept that should “get out!”

Santorum gave the pastor a standing ovation… and then (later) said he didn’t *really* agree that Jews, Hindus, Muslims, etc. should “get out” of the country.

Gaddy didn’t hold anything back in his denunciation of Terry. You have to wonder why other leaders with religious titles don’t have the courage to do the same thing.

  • at a campaign event lol. This was a pastor giving an introduction and endorsement of a politician to his congregation. I’m wondering why his church’s tax-exempt status isn’t being recanted. If that’s not illegal I don’t know what is.

  • From what I’ve read on another blog, they are looking into it, but he didn’t specifically say that he supports Santorum as president.

  • You’re welcome, Hemant, and thanks for posting! If believers were (otherwise) as rational as Rev. Gaddy, we could all go back to our day jobs.

  • I would think having Santorum there is evidence enough of his support. Especially while shouting for everyone else to “Get out!”

  • This is one of the best rebuttals I have ever heard.  All of our arguments rolled up into a few concise statements by someone on “their” side.  Protecting my freedom *from* religion protects your freedom *of* religion.

I’m now standing and giving Rev. Welton Gaddy my own ovation.

Nice to see he has the balls to take a stand and speak the truth.

I may disagree strongly with Christianity itself, but there are still many good people who happen to be Christians who are above blind hatred and who are on our side.
