A few of the talks from the Global Atheist Convention in Melbourne are starting to come online — the highlights, at least, are worth a few minutes of your time. I love Dennett’s clip.
Ayaan Hirsi Ali:
Dennett is the condescending, arrogant sort of atheist that makes the rest of us look petty and intolerant.
So the pope thinking he has a direct line to god isn’t arrogant???
What? Dennett is lovely! He’s the sort of atheist who makes us look loveable.
I know right? He is so sweet and cuddly! Even Dinesh keeps him separate from the other three horsemen.
I think you mean Richard Dawkins or Bill Maher or PZ Myers or….
Enjoyed them all. Personally thought both the Ali and Grayling video’s were very thought provoking. Grayling’s point about what percentage of people do religious spokespeople actually represent. When you consider less that 50% of the religious attend services weekly (SOURCE: http://www.gallup.com/poll/117382/church-going-among-catholics-slides-tie-protestants.aspx), even the Catholic representative represents less than 15% of the population, and the rest are significantly lower than that. Do they really command the respect they’d like us to give them, when they can’t even agree amongst themselves.
I “devoutly” hope that Mother Theresa was not any sort of atheist. I long suspected she was a nasty, mentally unbalanced person- and then I read what Christopher Hitchens had to say about her.
