Join a Local Team and Help Atheists Raise $1,000,000 to Fight Cancer

As I’ve mentioned before, there’s an atheist-led effort to raise $1,000,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The Foundation Beyond Belief along with the philanthropic Stiefel family are working together to make this happen.

I’m not asking for any donations right now (though you can always donate here). What I really want is for readers to join their local teams. Sign up to walk for a couple hours in your cities with a group of evil, evil heathens. You’ll be helping us make this event a major showing of Humanist generosity.

There’s a huge list of teams that have already formed here. Join one of them!

If your local team doesn’t exist, start one and put the letters FBB at the end so we can track you. There are rewards for the largest freethought teams :)

These walks take place in September, October, and November so it’s important we start building them now. Get your family members, religious friends, Facebook acquaintances to sign up, too. There’s no reason to exclude them.

Thanks for your help!

I wonder if other virtual teams could be created for those of us who can’t travel to an existing walk and if those virtual teams could meet and actually walk together locally under the auspices of LLS and FBB?  I’m in a midwest college town, 2 hours from the nearest official walk and I don’t have time to form an LLS chapter to participate.  However, there are local atheist groups that might be interested in teaming up for such a venture.   If I worked towards that, I wouldn’t necessarily want to be tied to the Raleigh walk.  e.g. we might want to affiliate with a closer location or go on a different date.

Hi there, I’m actually on the FBB staff and can answer your question.  We can create a subteam for you under the virtual walk OR we can have you form a team affiliated with the nearest walk and allow you to walk on your own (the way you would if you had a virtual team).  It sounds like you’re leaning towards the second option.  You can email me at brittany@foundationbeyondbelief.org, and we can work out the details.  I’d love for you to have a team, and don’t want the affiliation with Raleigh to hold you back!

I started a team – Wyoming Atheists FBB – on that list. I hope more people join our team or at least donate. I’m trying my best! At least I set up a team and am trying! :) Been sharing my team’s link on our Facebook group Wyoming Atheists. If anyone else from Wyoming visits this site and is not on the group, please look for Wyoming Atheists FBB on Hemant’s link of “teams that have already formed” and donate or join the team.

Thanks so much!  If you have any fundraising events (or would like some fundraising ideas), let me know (brittany@foundationbeyondbelief.org).  We want to help our teams as much as we can!
