FOX News Asks Whether Your Zodiac Sign Determines Your Diet

Yesterday on Fox & Friends, Astrologer Sharon Ward attempted to explain how your zodiac sign should guide your diet:

You know your theory is full of shit when even Steve Doocy and Brian Kilmeade say out loud that they’re not buying it. (Meanwhile, Gretchen Carlson appeared to accept the whole thing, no questions asked.)

I saw this on Yahoo the other day, just another quack peddling nonsense for profit.

Unusual though, Fox normally only peddle Right Wing Conservative Christian nonsense for profit.

Paddy Reddin says: Unusual though, Fox normally only peddle Right Wing Conservative Christian nonsense for profit.

All the more reason for Steve Doocy and Brian Kilmeade to not buy into the idea.

First one…eat good stuff. Second one…eat good stuff. Third one…eat good stuff.

    Really?

This is just as bad as a preacher claiming that the Zodiac has Christian origins. Not making this up. I heard a preacher claiming this years ago, when I used to live with my mother, on a Sunday morning Christian radio program called “Truths that Transform” which preached a lot of crappy claims including this one.

One of the big stained glass windows in Tronheim Cathedral – to my surprise -depicts the signs of the zodiak, so of course it must be Xian, right?

Btw if someone ask me for my start sign I am I always reply: “Do you mean the sign where the sun was thousands of years ago when the dates were fixed or do you mean were the sun actually was when I was born?” Either they change the subject or we get into quite interesting discussions where there is a possibility so sow some sanity seeds.

Gretchen Carlson fascinates me. This an accomplished violinist and a cum laude graduate of Stanford University, who spends every single day acting like a complete idiot. Without evidence of massive corruption, I have to assume that she is FAR more intelligent than she seems. So Carlson is essentially a propaganda actress, required to dumb herself down to the blonde bimbo stereotype which is the Fox News standard. I shudder to imagine what kind of effect years of this kind of closet must have on the psyche.

She is also a former Miss America…I won’t get started about that!

You can just watch Gretchen squirm when anyone expresses an opinion that is non-conventional.  She is a typical privileged, christian, white woman who followed,” the script”, and been rewarded.

I hate that morning show where they are just so condescending and sanctimonious.

I have to agree. Jon Stewart’s called her out on it before. She’s got to be smarter than she acts, though maybe so many years of pretending to be a complete idiot has dulled her mind a bit.

Intelligence doesn’t always translate to rational views, however. Although it seems almost paradoxical, there are some very credulous people who are also very intelligent- at least, in some of the more conventional ways that intelligence is evaluated.

You might be right that it’s an act- I suspect others (particularly at Fox) don’t really believe the junk they spout- but it could also be evidence of a brain that works in an odd way.

Dave Silverman noted that Bill O’Reilly was also surprisingly bright off camera to the extent that it was a jarring transition to continue talking to him when they went on air. I’m sure a number of their hosts are effectively actors.

Also, of course, intelligence in itself doesn’t equate with critical thinking.

Steve Doocy’s face just makes the first image. :D

When I was in the US about 20 years ago, I attended a party where talk got around to star signs.

A Scottish guy told everyone that in Scotland if you don’t like the star sign you were given at birth you could change it by re-registering a new star sign with the govt office that registers births and deaths.

Everyone thought it was a great idea and no-one questioned it!

How do you know if your digestive  system is slow?   If you have brachycardia, a slow heartbeat and therefore slowed circulation, following this advice  instead of getting medical help could kill you.

When I was younger I used to think stuff like this was harmless fun. Now it grates like fingernails on a chalkboard.

I wonder what my doctor would say if I called him and said “My Zodiac sign says I have a slow circulatory system. Can we test for that?”

This is what happens when show business infects the news.  Rush and Howard Stern are just doing what they are paid to do.  Who knows what they really believe, or would behave if they had real jobs like selling insurance or greeting at Wal-Mart.

  • allein

What the heck does anything she advised have to do with their signs?

And I’m a Libra…my doctor told me to take Vitamin D, not E.
