Where’s the Mirror, Bristol?

Here’s Sarah Palin‘s daughter, Bristol Palin, commenting on buttons like this at the Democratic National Convention:

Can’t we have at least some dignity in our politics?

Here’s Sarah Palin‘s daughter, Bristol Palin, commenting on signs like these at Tea Party rallies:

… [crickets] …

Palin also misses out on the obvious point: The “Sluts vote” button is a message of self pride. The people wearing the button use the phrase as a personal badge of honor, countering those who call them “sluts” for using birth control. They’re not putting down other people with their message.

How oblivious does Palin have to be that she finds that button offensive and “lacking dignity”… but fails to criticize her own side (and her own mother) for all the (actually) horrible things they’ve said over the past few years?

Well, the former is an attempt to own a a demeaning label placed upon them by vitriolic, mean spirited people. The latter is the semi-literate ramblings of vitriolic, mean spirited crazy people, and where would the Palins be without that.

  • Craig Fisher

She’s a nobody. Don’t waste your time on giving her any notice.

    • Coyotenose

That’s how religionists get ahead, which is exactly why they complain when people call them out.

  • JasmynMoon

I’m not surprised. This is from a family that supports abstinence only sex ed despite the fact that it didn’t even work in their own home.

    • Good and Godless

The ex-Governor of the “Rapist State of Alaska” accomplished nothing in her aborted governorship to advance the role of women.  Since then she has served as the posterchild for the republican anti-woman agenda.

Whoever is not sorry now lacks the ability for rational observation and will curse us to much sorrier times ahead.

      • JasmynMoon

I was just commenting on their inability to recognize their own hypocrisy. I’m not sure how your post is related to mine.

        • Good and Godless

A “woman”accomplishing nothing towards, and then crusades against women’s rights is exactly related to what you posted.

          • JasmynMoon

Okay. Fair enough. Your post was strong enough to stand in its own. When I read your second paragraph about being sorry, I worried my phone had auto corrected, and I hadn’t noticed.
Anti-choice women is something I’ll never understand. I wish it was a small group. Sadly, I’ve met many of them. They also seem to think a female isn’t a real woman until she’s had kids.

  • Thelivingwalrus

Color me surprised she wasn’t wearing it.

Bristol who? As Craig Fisher stated, she’s a nobody. Why is this insignificant piece of trash being given a voice in a rationalist venue?

    • Coyotenose

That’s how religionists get ahead, which is exactly why they complain when people call them out.

A republican being a hypocrite? Shocking!

This from the from the unwed mother with the swearing baby  who is in the daughter of a fame seeking mountebank. So what is like to live in a glass house and have a big bag of stones to throw.

  • Fritzy

A Palin that’s clueless but decides to open her mouth anyway?  Why does this shock anyone?

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=609238798 Peter Eakin

    She has a blog?

    • Baby_Raptor

Yeah, and she pays someone named Nancy to ghost-write it for her. I read a blog called The Immoral Minority whose author is making it a job to keep track of the Palins, and Gryphon usually dissects “Bristol’s” posts. There’s no way Bristol could write at half the IQ level of the posts put up in her name.

      • Piet

The comments on the blog are predictable, yet still amazingly ignorant.

  • Thin-ice

Offended by a “slut” button? Pot calling kettle black?

  • Coyotenose

Bristol, would you like to comment on that $300,000+ that your mother illegally funneled to you via accounting tricks out of her campaign money?

    No?

  • SwedishLore15

Does Bristol even understand what “Sluts vote” is in response to? Does she even care? If she wants to see “dignity” in her politics, perhaps she should first have a talk with conservative radio hosts and politicians who continue to shame women that want contraceptive coverage, the ability to make choices regarding issues that relate to their own body, etc. “Sluts vote” is taking conservative attempts to shame women and turning it around, refusing to be defined by the right-wing attack on their advocacy for women’s issues.

    • grindstone

No, because that many well-reasoned words would break her brain. Self-reflection and nuanced thought are simply not her wheelhouse.

    • Alexandra

Yeah, this is what is blowing my mind.

This means she doesn’t understand the reference.  And as a woman who knows that sex and pregnancy is part of life, you’d think she’d have some compassion for the importance of easy access to birth control.  But no.  Much too optimistic a thought apparently.

  • http://twitter.com/Heathen57 Arval Becker

This from a woman (girl) who made a spectacle of herself on the national stage with her pregnancy and the ensuing parental rights debacle.  Then prostituting herself on a reality show that showcases her backwoods behavior.

Yep, I really care about what she and her half-governor says.

  • David McNerney

When I was a lot younger, trapped in a Catholic school, a slut was a loose woman who slept around – which in reality it meant that she had sex before marriage.  They’d inevitably end up pregnant and everyone would be ashamed, and they we’re kind of asking for it etc etc.

Long time ago – but strangely apt.

I prefer the newer form of ‘Slut’ – which I think is a woman who can dress the way she likes without getting raped.

  • LesterBallard

If Bristol looked in a mirror she might not recognize herself, with all the plastic surgery she’s had done. After all, Jesus said if thou hast no talent, improve thy physical attraction artificially and go on reality TV; as thy mother is an attention whore, so be thou.

  • Amakudari

Am I the only one who likes all of these?

I mean, they do a heck of a job either expressing or generating stupidity, which makes choosing whom to agree with a lot easier.

  • cathouseumbrella

    Sluts blog too, apparently.

  • Umm

I never saw that obamacare sign until you posted it. Please don’t be part of the problem.

    • C Peterson

How does increasing your knowledge about how the wingnuts operate make this site “part of the problem”? Take your head out of the sand!

  • ReadsInTrees

Where can I get one of those slut buttons? As a woman who uses birth control,  I’m sure Rush would agree that I’m as slutty as they come….despite being married.

    • Kathryn

Seconded, I would LOVE to have one of these buttons!

  • Ruth

No mention of Mitt’s dad being born in Mexico (and he never visits his many cousins living in the Mormon colonies there).  Obama is as qualified as George Romney to be president.

  • C Peterson

I expect that the word hits a little closer to home than Bristol Palin
would care to admit… even to herself. And not in the sense those
proudly wearing the button are taking it to mean.

  • DougI

Sluts votes, and whores have books written for them and make a living on reality tv shows.

  • Octoberfurst

It’s just typical right-wing hypocrisy. They can be as mean-spirited, vulgar and condemning as they like but if the other does the slightest thing controversial they get all bent out of shape, throw their self-righteous noses in the air and say, “How DARE you?”

  • advancedatheist

This supports my contention that the conservative movement has groped towards the realization that it represents the interests of productive beta males who feel disenfranchised by progressive social policies which treat them as chumps. These policies allow women to marry the state as a surrogate husband; ignore those boring and yucky responsible men in favor of thugs, bad boys and cads; and allow women to file fraudulent paternity claims against the entire taxpaying male population for support of their bastard children, assuming they even have these kids after years of contraception use and abortions. Conservative politicians, by contrast, offer to make beta males’ lives easier by restricting women’s sexual freedom before these women ruin themselves for marriage through promiscuity, single motherhood and welfare dependency. This would have the effect of increasing the supply of young women who would make good wives, especially the virgin brides.

Despite what the Atheism+ goofs claim, patriarchal beliefs have empirical support and exist independently from god beliefs. We can’t observe gods, but men have had to live with women all along. These beliefs have arisen organically and without central planning, so if they tend to put women in an unfavorable light – well, you can’t blame that on gods, now, can you?

What are they referring to when they say “sluts vote”? Is someone calling them sluts? Seems like an obscure reference to me. I would assume that they are simply claiming to be promiscuous women who vote, are proud of the it and want to get attention. I do not see the birth control relationship. Did someone notable call women who use birth control sluts? I’m guessing Palin did not see the connection either.

    • RobMcCune

This might be a reference to Rush Limbaugh calling Georgetown law student Sandra Fluke a slut over a period of several days on his radio show after she testified before congress about the need to have her insurance cover birth control.

  • Canadian Atheist, eh!

Gotta love some rhetorical questions, you betcha!

  • kaydenpat

For some reason, our wonderful political commentator, Bristol Palin, is blind to the hostility radiating from her side of the aisle.  How surprising.  Did she have anything to say when Limbaugh was calling Sandra Fluke a slut for three days straight?
