Crashing a Poll to Help a Great Atheist Podcast

The Ask An Atheist podcast is up for a local award and they need your help! Last year, they took second place. This year, they want to win.

They’ve been nominated for “Best Local Podcast” in Evening magazine’s Best of Western Washington — and the winner is determined by online votes…

You can support them by going here and voting for them. (You have to “register” but it’s a fairly harmless process. It took me under a minute to vote.)

There are only 10 days left in the contest and AAA is in third place. Can we help put them over the top?

About Hemant Mehta

I don’t see that they deserve it.

Looks like they’re around 400 votes behind first place… (As of this comment)

I’ve watched/listened to their show many times, and they do a great job.  I’ve voted.

I couldn’t vote for them in good conscience if I haven’t heard the podcast. That would be an act of  Pharyngulation.
    Done!

You’ve got 10 days, and each episode is only 56 minutes long :)

Since AAA seems to constantly beg its listeners to vote for them for these awards, the awards, essentially, mean nothing. An award is given in recognition of ones achievements. If a group recieves one as a result of artificially inflating a vote for it by asking for those votes, it’s no longer an award. It’s little more than an acquisition.

Or they could just be informing people that they have been nominated for it. People can’t vote if they don’t know about it. And they can’t vote for them if they don’t know they’re in it. I guess we should take away all that money from the SSA, Camp Quest and FBB because they asked and campaigned for our votes.

The achievement is having enough people say “hey, something atheisty is important/interesting to a bunch of people!”  The recognition helps get atheist viewpoints out there in the public discourse.  We’re on commercial radio sandwiched between hours and hours of religious programming (FWIW, the other contenders are also radio shows that release as podcasts) and non-internet media has very little explicitly non-religious saturation.  That’s the goal of our show–to get atheism into the public discourse and into different media.  So vote or don’t vote, listen or don’t listen, but know that’s where we’re coming from.

Right now their in third (9:21 PST), but I’m not from Washington and don’t listen to their podcast. Since they don’t appear to be losing to a christian or right wing podcast, I don’t feel like skewing this contest in their favor.

Tried to vote, but their site wants me to accept their web cookie(s), and I’m picky about who gets to give me cookies!

    (patheos.com is certainly allowed, though!)
