What’s Causing Hurricane Sandy? Let’s Ask Some Christians Who Know Nothing About Science…

Why is Hurricane Sandy causing so much destruction right now?

According to John McTernan, Hurricane Sandy was caused by the homosexual agenda and whatever we’re doing in Israel:

Hurricane Sandy is hitting 21 years to the day of the Perfect Storm of October 20, 1991… This was the day that President George Bush Sr. initiated the Madrid Peace Process to divide the land of Israel, including Jerusalem. America has been under God’s judgment since this event. Both of these hurricanes were cause by freakish weather patterns that came together to create [sic]

Twenty-one years breaks down to 7 x 3, which is a significant number with God. Three is perfection as the Godhead is three in one while seven is perfection.

It appears that God gave America 21 years to repent of interfering with His prophetic plan for Israel; however, it has gotten worse under all the presidents and especially Obama. Obama is 100 percent behind the Muslim Brotherhood which has vowed to destroy Israel and take Jerusalem. Both candidates are pro-homosexual and are behind the homosexual agenda. America is under political judgment and the church does not know it!

Margie Phelps of the Westboro Baptist Church blames gay marriage…

“Ex-gay” activist Linda Wall blames a custody case involving a lesbian couple:

Let’s See How Vermont Does During The Hurricane

I didn’t expect most of you to agree with my statement. But I tell you this the tragedy here is that a little six year old Christian girl and her born again Mother had to flee America in order to obey God’s Word.

And now a Minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ is facing imprisonment for helping protect a little child from being removed from her biological Christian Mother and turned over to a stranger.

Christians who loved and nurtured Lisa and Isabella through the six plus years are also being sued for obeying God’s Word. So look in the mirror and decide where your commitment is.

Vengeance is God’s and He does repay.

Pat Robertson will surely make an idiotic statement on this hurricane’s cause very soon, so keep an eye out for that, too.

Meanwhile, here’s what an actual scientist is saying:

In the immediate term, three factors have come together to make Sandy what it is: A huge storm with winds gusting up to 90 mph (145 kph) set to make landfall somewhere on the East Coast Monday night. First, hurricane season is still on, meaning the tropics are still actively generating storms. That’s Sandy’s origin…

But a storm like Sandy would normally be losing steam by now as it moved into colder, less energetic waters, said David Robinson, a Rutgers University professor and New Jersey’s state climatologist. In this case, however, a trough of low pressure dipping down from the Arctic is feeding the hurricane, actually strengthening its intensity as it moves northward. (Higher tides because of a full moon may also increase flooding from the storm.)

Those conditions are the same as 1991′s “Perfect Storm,” a tempest that occurred when a nor’easter fed by Arctic air absorbed Hurricane Grace. But that storm never made landfall. The third weather factor feeding Sandy, a high-pressure system, is pushing the hurricane onshore, making this “about the worst case imaginable,” Robinson said.

Crazy Christians: 0. Scientists: 29829214131.

By the way, I’m well aware those Christians I quoted above don’t represent most Christians. But many “sane” Christians still believe God had something to do with this — it’s God’s will, God has a plan for us, God does everything for a reason, etc.

They’re just as wrong about its origins. Don’t forget that.

I hope to be able to post about what atheists are doing to help victims of this disaster very soon.

That damned homosexual agenda also caused the cottage cheese in my fridge to go bad today!  And the toilet keeps running! And the cat’s hawking up a fur ball! I am under God’s judgment! I never should have messed around with that homosexual agenda! Yeah, right…….assholes.

Are these people worshiping Poseidon? Boreas? Thor?

Why has Yahweh become such an abysmally lousy shot over the centuries? He used to be able to smite the first born male of every family in Egypt with the precision of an elite Marine sniper. Now he can’t seem to hit the broad side of a barn with a dozen shotguns at point-blank range. If he’s so pissed off at the evil gays, why doesn’t he just make them all fall down dead at the same moment? Instead, he’s throwing a hundred billion gallon water balloon at the east coast, and he’ll only kill a few stubborn grampas who stupidly refuse to leave the shacks they built out on exposed beaches. If God tried his hand at a carnival ring toss game, he’d totally devastate the place, but he still wouldn’t even win a rubber ducky.

  • Sharon Hypatiia

Well, I am glad that got cleared up!
I thought that god was sending the hurricane to punish false xtian prophets, xtians who don’t go into closets to pray and xtians who haven’t given away all they own to follow Jesus.
    My mistake.

My brother and I had the…um…pleasure of debating this McTernan guy. A couple of days after the debate he posted in his blog a categorical claim that Muslims and Secularists enjoy killing Christians. I asked him if he really meant all Muslims and all Secularists and gave him a chance to apologize. Instead he chose to stand by his post as written. In retrospect I regret ever sharing the stage with a dangerous hate monger.

  • http://nwrickert.wordpress.com/ Neil Rickert

I saw a comment elsewhere, by a Canadian.  He wonders why God’s aim is so bad that he missed Canada, which has been recognizing gays for longer than any of the states that are in the path.

  • cipher

Nothing is ever gained by debating these psychopaths. Both they and the cretins who idolize them walk away convinced that they’ve won.

  • cipher

He keeps ignoring Western Europe as well, where they’ve been largely secular for decades.

Evangelical narcissism – they”re the center of the universe.

  • pagansister

Just goes to prove yet again the idiots that exist in the leadership world of Christianity!   What IS stupid is that there are people that actually BELIEVE the statements their “leaders” spout!  Did some of those Christians ever wonder why Jesus has 12 dudes following him around?   Seriously, was it possible Jesus as “a homosexual?”

  • TiltedHorizon

I was going to post up how ridiculous I thought John McTernan is but he has math to back him up:

“Twenty-one years breaks down to 7 x 3, which is a significant number
with God. Three is perfection as the Godhead is three in one while seven
    is perfection. ”

Clearly I was wrong to think McTernan is ridiculous; now I know for certain.

  • Baby_Raptor

They’re all retarded, but that last one is sick. Yeah, the scum who kidnapped a child and fled the country is really the victim….

Remind me where it says in the bible to kidnap children if you happen to not like their parents?

  • dantresomi

what about us atheists? doesn’t God want to damn us as well…?

  • The Watcher

One of the things that annoys me the most about that situation is that the fundies say repeatedly that the Christian kidnapper’s ex-wife is a “stranger.” When will these people get it through their heads that your wife, who has agreed to raise a child with you, is not a “stranger!?”

  • Randomfactor

Yeah, but god’s like the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Trall…if we can’t see him, he can’t see us…

  • Helanna

What I want to know is why does three have a reason for being perfect but seven just is? Maybe three is also ‘just perfection’ and that’s why the Godhead is three in one instead of the other way around.

Isn’t the US the most densely christian  populated  area in the world? Maybe god hates christians and he is really a pretty good shot.

  • Octoberfurst

Every time there is a natural disaster in the US these religious nuts crawl out of the woodwork and claim that this was “God’s judgment” on us for pissing him off in some way. Usually it has to do with God being angry about gay rights being promoted but it could just as well be about legal abortion, asking Israel to do anything it doesn’t want to do or preventing Christians from turning public schools into evangelical outposts.
So in their minds when God doesn’t get what he supposedly wants he acts like a petulant child and throws a murderous hissy-fit and breaks things and kills innocent people. (How nice.) Their God is a psychopathic monster.
Frankly I am sick of these morons and their insipid statements. But the sad fact is that a lot of Christians believe them.  I know a number of Christians who believe that God really does punish entire nations via natural disasters. I just shake my head in amazement at how credulous they are.

  • NickDB

Well after doing a bit of digging (not much though) the figures I could find for the USA is that 15% of the country is Atheist (2009 gallup poll, couldn’t find a newer one in 5 minutes), 3.5% (let’s say 4) is homosexual.

This is a very crude calculation and ignores the demographic that are both homosexual and atheist.

So God is happy to kill 4 theists straight people for every 1 atheist homosexual. Obviously he hates them more than us.

  • Sapig

You just carry on with you blasphemous statements. Disrespecting Jesus, who died for the sins of the world, is the ultimate form of blasphemy.  By your words you will be justified and by your words you will be condemned. I will now lay a challenge before you: Take all your filthy words back and repent and your life will change rapidly for the better. Carry on with your blasphemy and I promise you that you would wish that you were never born. Be a man and do the right thing!!!!!

  • Sapig

You will ultimately be damned if you don’t repent. You can be sure of that!!!!!!

Clearly, you are ignorant of the Ways of  God(tm). 7 = 3 + 3 + 3 / 3. Only those who already know the truth can understand the truth, can see the truth. I pity you that you are not among God’s Elite(tm).

  • Sue Blue

There are also the nutters that blame every event from the Japanese earthquake and tsunami to the northern lights on HAARP, Nibiru, and the Mayan calendar.  I’m sure they’ll have some YouTube videos up any minute blaming them for Sandy, too.

All real Christians KNOW God has to stay hidden to save the wonderful free will of non-believers, and since those evil, science-filled, Satan-worshiping meteorologists are monitoring the weather 24-7, God can’t show himself by appearing to change the weather patterns so drastically.

What he CAN do is use his Holy Spirit to tell random pastors that he sends entirely physically explainable weather patterns like droughts or hurricaines to punish millions of people for ultra-specific wrongs of a few people.

Isn’t God so powerful? He can make himself seem like he totally doesn’t even exist by absolutely failing to appear in nature in any way that might possibly be consistent with his supposed judgments and fairness.

Yet he can still get the message out to the faithful via utterly untrustworthy self-proclaimed prophets amped up on on their massive egos! Hallelujah!”

Ahem. This has been a test of kagekiri’s Fundamentalist God-Justification Algorithm.

  • Edmond

  • kagekiri

Old Testament: You can kidnap, enslave, and rape children as long as they’re the female virgin children of your enemies (who, obviously, are also God’s enemies and worthy of death).

The caveat is that you have to first make sure to kill their parents or God will be angry, because he likes the total destruction of everything that isn’t sexually pure enough to rape, enslave, or sacrifice.

Man, the Bible’s absolute morality is great, isn’t it?

How this Jewish religion became a white-American-religion I’ll never understand. Never mind that it’s all phony bs… I’m just saying historically speaking at the time it was supposed to of happened according to the bible…

God spoke quite clearly in this storm: he spared Vermont which had almost no damage. Quite obviously he was showing his displeasure at his homophobic servants because Vermont was the first state in the Union to allow civil unions. It is also true that Vermont is the least religious of all states, so it seems god either actually prefers atheists or prefers a state which takes care of its own instead of calling for days of prayer and condemning the behavior of others.

  • Coyotenose

  • pagansister

Really?  Are you serious?    If so, you are entitled to your beliefs, and I to mine.  The words stay, as that is how I feel.   I was raised in a Christian religion—and have 2 very devout Christian sisters—but they are not stupid and know that Hurricane Sandy (or any other natural disaster) has nothing to do with the God they believe in trying to punish large groups of people.   Hate to disappoint, but I’m not condemned, and I will never regret I was born—-and it will be hard to be a man as is evident by my name, I’m a woman!  Didn’t notice that?   :o)

  • pagansister

Good point—if He was going to punish folks for doing awful things, then a long time ago due to THE  CHURCH (RCC) having so many priests that thought children were meant for their pleasure, the Perfect Storm should have hit the Vatican a very long time ago!   Different priorities?   Some god.

  • Edmond

I don’t get it.  What is the point of marking the doors?  God should know who is behind them, with or without a mark.  The fact that the residents had to mark their door, in order to “tell” God that a faithful person lived there, reveals this story as a myth.  Primitive stories like this always over-anthropomorphize their gods, giving them attributes which are too human, such as the need for markers to find the faithful.

Just another nutcase looking for 15 minutes of fame! Ok, Rev McTernan, you can go back to your church and claim victory over homosexuality.
But first, why did God take it out on thousands of  good Christian people too? Is that payback for tolerating gays?

Sandra Allen: The Portraiture of Trees

    March 24, 2010 by nbmaa

Ballast, 2009. Sandra Allen (b. 1963). Graphite on paper, 18 ½ x 11 feet. Carroll and Sons Gallery.

Sandra Allen, born in 1963, has been using trees as the subject of her stunning large-scale drawings since 2001. Appropriate to her work, she lives and works in the small New England town of Hingham, Massachusetts. Previously a painter, Allen now focuses entirely on drawing trees, using mostly graphite on white paper. The result is a photorealistic drawing that requires viewers to come closer in order to see the hand of the artist in the graphite lines and shading. Allen explains her feelings on this form of art: “Drawing is both a noun and a verb. The action registers the process of the making and the image becomes an object of contemplation. Drawing is also one of our most basic primitive instincts and I consider it the closest medium to thought.”

Conduit, 2009. Sandra Allen, (b. 1963). Graphite on paper, 70 x 52.5 in. Collection of the artist.

Allen photographs the trees around her for inspiration, whether she is in Massachusetts or away on trips to places such as Costa Rica. She has drawn trees of all kinds, including beech trees as well as palm trees. To begin her drawings, she overlays a grid onto the photograph and translates each section onto paper, making conscious decisions on what to emphasize and what to leave out in her depiction. This involves strong concentration on the details of the surface of the tree which Allen calls “an incredible sculptural narrative.”

Allen’s tree drawings have been called “portraits” because of their photorealistic quality and intricate attention to detail. As in realistic portraits, her trees have imperfections and odd qualities such as intertwining branches and twisting trunks. With the intensity of her admiration, it makes sense that she would one day create a drawing of the largest tree (by trunk volume) in the world. This individual tree, nicknamed the General Sherman tree, is a Giant Sequoia located in California in the Sequoia National Park. Allen’s Ballast, a multi-panel drawing of a section of the General Sherman, is 18 ½ feet across, only half the width of the actual tree (36 ½), and 11 feet high (the tree itself is 275 feet tall). Even at the reduced size, the viewer feels miniscule in comparison.

Risorgimento, 2005.Sandra Allen, (b. 1963). Graphite on paper, 88 x 40 in. New Britain Museum of American Art, William F. Brooks Fund, 2009.115.

The New Britain Museum of American Art recently exhibited Allen’s work as part of the NEW/NOW series. The exhibition was on view from October 30, 2009 until January 24, 2010. Her piece Risorgimento, is now owned by the Museum.

The structure, form and surface of a tree record the strength, fragility, growth and endurance of its life over time. I see a correlation between the development of the human psyche and personality and the visual narrative that is evident on the surface and form of a tree. Using drawing as my medium and the tree as my subject has freed me to explore and experiment with the subtleties and possibilities of their visual meaning and metaphor. With each piece I try to push myself to a place that I have never gone before.

    -Sandra Allen

Visit her website for more information, images, and news.

How do you feel about Allen’s tree drawings being called portraits? Do you agree or disagree?
How do you feel about an artist using only one subject continuously in their art?
Have any of you seen her work in person, perhaps recently at NBMAA? What effect, if any, did it have on you?
