You can be skeptical and friendly at the same time.

This pretty much explains why a lot of us walked away from our faith in the first place:
Hemant Mehta is the editor of Friendly Atheist, appears on the Atheist Voice channel on YouTube, and co-hosts the uniquely-named Friendly Atheist Podcast. You can read much more about him here.
And they accuse atheists of driving people away from their faith. We don’t have to — they are doing a great job of that themselves.
And for those of us whose church didn’t mind questions being asked, maybe that’s why we stayed.
I listen to this show on the radio at times called Pastors Perspetctive.
It is an hourly long show in which Christians call in and ask questions and when they are asked really hard questions they never answer them. They have this way of dancing around them and Christians do call in with some serious questions but they rarely get a serious answer.
It may also be that some people are willing to believe the answers the church gives them, and other people are not.
I would say propaganda: but because I am nice, I won’t…
I would say passive-aggressive whining, but since… oh wait, I’m only nice in person. You’re a passive-aggressive whiner. Might want to go back to your know-nothing ranty posts where you pretend to intellectualism. That’s SURE to work.
Hey, buddy. What the hell is so “No-nothing” about my posts. Do not believe me on any of the shit I am saying: GO RESEARCH IT. “Passive-aggressive whining”? Funny, if that is the case, then I must sound like Christopher Hitchens then. And they say atheists are supposed to be open-minded.
You do know that Naked Pastor isn’t an atheist, right?
Thank you for being open-minded, Anna. Your respect is much obliged, truelly.
Most questions are met with “God did it” or some such thing like that. When asked why, they either tune it out, get angry at you, or say that we insignificant human beings can’t understand why God does what he does. The best you can hope for is that they dance around the question and pretend like they answered it.
The sad part about the dance is they truly think they are answering the question. Deep down inside they feel what just came out of their mouth is the truth.
“Mystical explanations are considered deep; the truth is, they are not even shallow.”
I was actually going through confirmation as a Catholic, and I kept asking questions. Eventually the assistant priest said “If you don’t just believe, why are you even here?!”
Gave me something to think about
That’s pretty much why I got away from religion. Except it wasn’t them sticking out their finger, it was me. And it wasn’t horizontal…
yup, been there. never went back.
