Hey, Pope, Come Have Dinner with Her Two Moms!

During the Pope’s Christmas address, he used his time to criticize gay people for… being gay:

In one of his most important speeches of the year, the Pope stressed that a person’s gender identity is God-given and unchangeable. As a result, he sees gay marriage as a “manipulation of nature.”

“People dispute the idea that they have a nature, given to them by their bodily identity, that serves as a defining element of the human being,” he said at the Vatican on Friday. “They deny their nature and decide that it is not something previously given to them, but that they make it for themselves.”

As Pope, Benedict sets both tone and theology for the Catholic Church. Officially, the church still considers homosexuality an “intrinsically disordered” act.

Emma Tattenbaum-Fine has a message for His Holy Popeness: Come have dinner with my two moms:

You should come over. You should come over and meet my moms. You’ll love my dog. We’ll make you polenta. My boyfriend cooks, so you won’t be the only boy. And, at the end of the night, I’ll drive you back to the Vatican, and while you’re being celibate… with yourself… you can maybe think about all the children who could be adopted into loving families like mine, with two moms or two dads… and then maybe next year, at Christmas, you’ll make a speech that’s a little bit less damaging to the whole of the human race.
