If You’d Like to Help Create the Secular Coalition for Illinois…

The Secular Coalition for America is trying to begin a chapter in Illinois and they had limited participation the last time they had a call for those interested in building it. So they’re trying again this Saturday.

If you want to help lead or volunteer with this organization, we need you to call in. All the information you need is here!

Totally off topic, but on my way home from work today I was thinking again how I might start a secular drug and alcohol group similar to A.A. but without that book that says God keeps you sober. I-have-no-clue. BTW: I’m on the Northern border of Illinois

One already exists, it is called Save Our Selves or SOS. Never been a member, so I don’t know how widespread it is.

Hemant, the link to info you posted is actually set to private so people who aren’t part of the group can’t read it. I believe the same information is here: http://secular.org/states/chapters/illinois

    Thanks! Fixed.

Yes I’ve heard of SOS, but it seems the groups in the surrounding towns where I live are defunct now. I was hoping it would be more popular since its been around since about the mid ’80s. A.A. is losing membership (like me after 15 years), but drugs and alcohol aren’t losing members. I’ve talked to several people in town in the past that would like to get sober, but don’t like “all the God stuff” of A.A. Medical insurance only pays so much, and doesn’t offer affordable long term fellowship/support that I know of either.

I’ll be in on the call. I hope things can get off the ground here; we need it.
