Christian Right Leader: ObamaCare Leads to a ‘Hitler-Kind of Killing Machine’

We already know the government gave $542,400,000 in funding to Planned Parenthood last year. That money paid for cancer screenings, STD/STI tests, contraception… and not abortions (since those are not funded by the government).

Liberty Counsel founder and Religious Right spokesbigot Mat Staver not only ignores that reality entirely, he’s making the claim that Obama (and Congress and liberals and everyone else, pretty much) is just like… well… take a look (beginning at the 7:00 mark):

You can also read it for yourself:

“It’s like enriching Hitler to give him more money and forcing people to fund Hitler to slaughter innocent people.”

He continued, noting that Hitler “killed a lot fewer people. Certainly it was atrocious in the way that he did it. It’s repugnant to even think that you would force people to fund a Hitler-kind of killing machine or a Pol Pot or some of these other genocidal tyrants.

“Yet that’s what we’re doing here in America,” he said.

I don’t know whether to accuse Staver of trivializing the Holocaust, completely misunderstanding what Planned Parenthood does, or going nutjob on Obama.

So I’ll go with “All of the above.”

Wait until he reads about the Planned Parenthood Abortionplex. I know that my facebook went crazy when that made the news.

I posted that on facebook a while back and someone unfriended me because she thought it was real

  • Gus Snarp

I am so tired of them pretending fetuses are people. Most abortions happen very early in the pregnancy. Does this look like a person? http://www.thisismyabortion.com/

  • Jessee

I hate to agree with my Reoublican friends here, but how exactly does PP get government funding, but assure people that it doesn’t go towards abortion? I’m a little fuzzy on this – if I get a paycheck, it goes into my bank account with the rest of my money. How is it separate?

    • Blasphemous_Kansan

Someone with more direct experience may feel free to correct me here, but I believe that PP itemizes, with audit trial, the expenses that are available for government funding and then the gov’t cuts a check for something close to the amount of these funds. Also, I believe that it’s plainly transmitted that costs for pregnancy termination services are passed onto the customer.

To continue your paycheck analogy, instead of getting a paycheck and promising that it doesn’t go toward something your employer doesn’t want you to buy, you would instead pay for rent/utilities/food costs for a pay period (maybe on credit) and then itemize your expenses and submit to your boss where they would decide how much you get paid. The analogy falls through a bit when discussing a not-for-profit entity, since most humans working for a boss for a paycheck are definitely for-profit!

Your paycheck == a government grant to a non profit. Nice try though advertising apples to sell oranges.

If the government gave PP less money for cancer screenings and contraceptives etc, then PP wouldn’t be able to provide as much cancer screening and contraception.

In fact PP bills the government back for specific services just like any medicare/medicaid provider does. But for some reason nobody is suggesting that the government stop giving any money to hospitals that perform abortions.

      Simple, two bank accounts.

I’m getting tired of those on the right arguing that the left is deliberately aiming abortion services towards minority groups. As if the left wants to eliminate an entire group of individuals based on some group that they belong to. They fail to realize that the poorer you are the less you can afford to take care of a child.

I do think the right is projecting, however, because they seem to be worried about the fact that by 2030 half of americans will be either black, latino, or mixed race. Making it so caucasians are no longer the majority. I wonder if the GOP will have changed their attitude by then.

Sorry, this should be to Jesse below.

Slight correction – Caucasians will still be the majority, but will be less than 50% compared to all other races combined.

      • http://twitter.com/JasonOfTerra PhiloKGB

It would be a relative majority (contrast with absolute majority), also known as a plurality.

I doubt most of the people saying that believe it’s true. They just say it because the idiots who listen to them will believe without question.

  • The Captain

Here’s the thing I’m getting sick of. If Mat Staver (or any anti-abortionist) REALLY thinks that abortions are killing “millions” of “innocent people” then he is a fucking coward! Seriously, if some really thinks there is some kind of mass slaughter going on and all they do is complain about it sometimes on the radio or internet, you are a cowardly terrible person. If there was some death squad walking down my street shooting the kids in the head I would get up off my ass and go out and give my life if need be to try to stop them. But these people claim to think this is going on all the time and just sit around and bitch, or maybe hold a sign. Cowards I say.

Sadly at this point the only anti-abortionist that I actually think even remotely believe the crap they spout off about “murders” and “holocaust” are the ones that actually shoot doctors. The rest are all either a bunch of cowards, or just hyper aggressive drama queens who need to grow up and start using words they actually believe when talking about abortion.

    • J-Rex

You’re right, they don’t honestly believe that it’s murder, or at least they recognize that the “murder” of a small developing organism is not nearly as bad as the murder of an actual person.
It’s just like they don’t *actually* believe in hell, otherwise they would all be out converting people nonstop.

      • Randomfactor

But their rhetoric inflames people who ARE that crazy.

      • ReadsInTrees

Or how they don’t ACTUALLY think that every human life is more important than another person’s mental, financial, and physical health and comfort….otherwise they’d sell their homes and cars to give that money to save starving brown children in dustier parts of the world.

  • C Peterson

I read this as a grossly anti-Semitic statement. The position of Liberty Counsel is that Jewish people are of the same value as an organism that hasn’t yet become a person, can’t think, has no feelings and no sense of self.

  • ggsillars

When you start out with a reductio ad Hitlerum, you’ve pretty much shot your credibility then and there.

  • DougI

Hitler was opposed to abortion and contraception, just like fundies are opposed to facts.

    • Thackerie

Hitler outlawed abortion for “Aryan” women. It was forced on many Jewish women.

      • DougI

Better check your history. People were allowed to get abortions if they had state approval. The Nazis didn’t force abortion on Jews, they wouldn’t waste time with a medical procedure when they were exterminating them.

  • The Other Weirdo

542 million, you sez? What is that expression as a percentage of tax breaks religious institutions enjoy in the USA?

  • pagansister

I tend to agree—all of the above is accurate, Hemant. That man needs a long stay in a mental institution, under sedation. Hitler? Seriously? Forcing people to fund Hitler to slaughter innocent people—what people?

  • Randomfactor

    ‘Hitler-Kind of Killing Machine’

    V1?
