How to Respond to the Anti-Gay ‘Day of Dialogue’

I posted a version of this last year, but it’s worth posting again.

Thursday marks the annual anti-gay “Day of Dialogue” in which participants can tell their LGBT classmates why they’re going to hell. It’s the Christian response to Friday’s gay-friendly “Day of Silence.”

This is the card (PDF) participants will be handing out:

Zach Moore, Coordinator of the Dallas/Fort Worth Coalition of Reason, created this fantastic parody (PDF) of that card:

So cut those out and spread the word!

And, by the way, if you click on, it redirects to this site :)

    “He cares about your sexuality…”

    What a perv.

  • Carpinions

All I have to say is Hell F’ing Yeah! What a patronizing ploy. “Day of Dialogue.” About what, exactly? Mr. Moore’s spoof captures it exactly. What dialogue is to be had with someone coming at you with absurd, meaningless rules s/he thinks damn you to eternal torture? How about we have a “Day of Dialogue” about your beliefs?

  • Regina Carol Moore

I love everything about this article!

  • LesterBallard

Fuck God. Fuck Jesus. Fuck you. That’s how I respond.

  • Lance Gritton

I always ask thee people (when they want to talk) “What about hermaphrodites? Does that mean your god screwed up?”

  • blasphemous_kansan

    >>”And that he created every one of us, male and female, so that we could enjoy an intimate relationship with him.”

This sentence is just so unbelievably creepy following “He designed the best plan for our sexuality and relationships”. If they take out the last sentence break, it’s hard to read the card as anything other than a plea to try to literally fuck god. And is that last sentence break even grammatically correct? It seems that the period creates a fragment out of the part I quoted above, and maybe it was added hastily because the plea to find sexual pleasure in god was a bit too literal.

In a vacuum, with no knowledge of the day of silence or GLBT bullying issues, if someone had given this to me to read today I would have thought that I was being invited to a literal threesome with god. Congratulations on the epic fail!

And awesome job on the parody card! Unlike the template the point is actually clear, and never makes the suggestion, figuratively or literally, that I need to fuck a deity.

  • Gus Snarp

How to respond? Won’t a simple “fuck off” do nicely?

  • GeraardSpergen

“Welcome to Focus on the Family’s Day of Dialogue® website.”
    I could’ve guessed that, I guess.

  • Sue Blue

Could anything be more passive-aggressive or condescending or patronizing than this piece of shit? It basically says, “You’re going to burn in hell and I’m not; even though we’re all worthless sinners to Jesus, you’re the lowest of the low. Come and let me verbally and emotionally bully you.”
Here’s how my “conversation” with these bigots would go: “If this judgmental, patronizing bullshit is your idea of “conversation” – fuck you. If accepting people only if they’re exactly like you is your idea of love, then fuck you. Fuck you, fuck Jesus, and fuck your “love”.

  • MD

Their god is mightily obsessed with sex.

  • chicago dyke

he is a rapist, after all. or at least, that’s what the law where i lives calls an old man who impregnates a teenager without her knowledge or consent.

  • WallofSleep

I want to have sex, but…

  • andrewmartens

If anyone has any good ideas for what to permanently do with, I’d love to hear them.

I’m content to leave it redirecting to last year’s post on The Friendly Atheist about this issue, but would be happy to see something more happen with it.

  • Redorblack Nigelbottom

That is why she was screaming “Oh God, Oh Godddd!!!” And I thought it was me…

  • MD

Technically Mary did consent. The archangel Gabriel cam down to tell her of God’s plan, and she answered “thy will be done.”

    God was still a perv.

  • Houndentenor

If they actually want a dialogue, that’s reasonable. If they want to lecture people about what they believe and then cry persecution if anyone dares question what they believe, then that’s rather pointless.

  • DavidMHart

Hey, he sent an angel to warn Mary in advance that she was going to be impregnated without her consent. Give the cosmic sexual predator some credit here ;-)

  • trj

He sees you when you’re sleeping, he knows when you’re awake. He’s gonna find out if you’re naughty or nice…

No wait, I’m thinking of that other bearded guy.

  • trj

Urgh! I doubted the sincerity of this “day of dialogue” before. Now I know for sure.

  • houndies

“created us make and female so we could enjoy an intimate relationship with him.” That sounds icky and weird.

  • Carpinions

I say do an internet meme network similar to or, for atheists/humanists. Use DOM as one of the main websites.

  • Carpinions

There is some irony behind this. On their webpage, which Hemant dutifully posted above, there is a link to a video on that page. I checked it out. It appears to be an anti-bullying video and is Jesus-free for the first half, but once you cross that mark you realize it’s nothing more than the Christian persecution complex in full, unbridled glory. Being bullied at school FOR BULLYING GAYS (when has that ever happened BTW)? You have a voice!! Teachers spreading the homosexual agenda in class? You have a voice!! Think you’re the minority IN A VAST MAJORITY CHRISTIAN COUNTRY WHERE MY RELIGION HAS INVADED PUBLIC SCHOOLS UNCONSTITUTIONALLY? You have a voice!!

They don’t even have to try to be offensive.

  • Tel

If they’re going to have a day promoting Christian values, they could have have picked love, charity, piety,
kindness, service to the poor, humility, forgiveness, honesty… Yet they settle on “screw the gays”. Yeah, great message.

  • liu

“… so you better not masturbate!”

  • Cheryl in Tucson

**enjoy an intimate relationship with Him** Anyone else find that rather creepy???

  • Cheryl in Tucson

I totally agree and posted as much above (should read posts before posting). This isn’t Zeus, after all. Or is it?!?

  • qt314

This is literally the worst thing you can do. don’t listen to this reddit-tier drivel. come up with some original content.

  • johnlev

My response, if I were still in school and gay, would be something like this: Dear Christian kid. I know you want to pretend to have a conversation but I’m not naive enough to fall for that tripe. You (christians) have literally had two thousand yrs to “talk” and I’ve already listened to what you have to day on this matter. The only reason you’re attempting to “talk” to me now is because I no longer have to hide in the shadows fearful if you’ll beat me or turn me into an mental institution that will “fix” me. I no longer have to fear for my job or safety because of what you have to say. Your brand of hate
is losing and you know it. That’s why you’re resorting to this last stand of pretending to be my friend and I’m not falling for it. In short, I no longer have to listen to you.

  • sara

If the Christians handing these things out are serious about wanting to stand up for their LGBT classmates against bullying, they can always just participate in the Day of Silence with them, instead of appropriating it and making it about themselves.

  • Jonas

But But if we’re supposed to have an **Intimate** RELATIONSHIP with Him, why are we in this Hedonistic selfish Male / Female sexual Human relationship — Or Male / Male etc ??

  • Jonas

But But if we’re supposed to have an **Intimate** RELATIONSHIP with Him, why are we in this Hedonistic selfish Male / Female sexual Human relationship — Or Male / Male etc ??

  • cipher

I am so heartily sick of these people I’m running out of ways to express it.

  • cipher

“Because Focus on the Family firmly believes that the truth will rise to
the surface when honest conversations are allowed to happen.”

There are no words for this level of irony.

  • Raising_Rlyeh

I know Jesus wants a relationship with me, but can you tell him that I am just not that into him?

  • Raina J

That is the most condescending tripe I’ve read in a while.

  • allein

No, no, no, the whole point is that the gays don’t get to screw…and that’s way more important than all those other little issues….

  • allein

Yeah, I’m flattered and all, but I’m really not into threesomes, thanks.

  • John Buckley

Hemant, where is your outrage? This is not freedom of speech or freedom of religion. This is bullying of the worst kind! It’s a school activity sponsored and sanctioned by adults from Focus on the Family. It is an ignorant and harmful attack against LGBT youth who have no way to defend themselves against it. It’s hard enough keeping kids from being bullied by their peers. Why would we let the adults lead this attack? Isn’t anyone worried that these activities might push an already struggling gay kid over the edge?

  • JA

“I will stand up for students around be being teased, bullied, or harmed in any way.”

LOL! Christians are the ones doing the teasing and bullying, and pretending to care causes even more harm.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to go purchase a new hypocrisy detector, because my old one blew up after reading the quoted line.

  • Drew M.

I read that in Eazy E’s voice.

  • 3lemenope

“How to respond to the anti-gay day of dialogue.”

With a slap, a slap, and a kiss.

  • Tainda

Thanks. I just spit my coffee out lol

  • Carpinions

Um, screw you too. What’s your idea, since you’re so good at busting on the ideas of others?

  • Drew M.

  • qt314

My idea, to not listen to you, was a better idea than you came up with. :-)

  • indorri

    Focus on the Family.

The same group that calls homosexuality “a particularly evil lie of Satan”.

These people can go fuck themselves. That’s my side of the dialogue.
