Atheist Community of Austin Now Owns Its Own Building

You could pretty much count on one hand (with fingers missing) the number of local atheist groups that have their own building.

But the Atheist Community of Austin just joined that elite group with their new stand-alone Freethought Library:

They had an open house over the weekend and the building is now open for business, so if you’re in the area, check it out and join the group!

We have had the building for over a year. We just had the Open house after making some renovations.

  • Matt Potter

Just wanted to say thank you for the ACA, AXP, and Godless Bitches podcast. All were very helpful and supportive in my exit of religion. My wife and I just moved to San Antonio and are excited to make our way up to Austin for a show!

I haven’t had dinner yet, and now I want cookies and cake!

  • Joe Zamecki

Yes! This is awesome. The ACA rocks!

So many other atheist groups are envious, so tell us how did you do it, and how might we get our own buildings?

  • ShoeUnited

I haven’t watched/listened to the ACA in a couple years. Where’s Matt? I see a few other people I recognize, but I don’t see Matt.

  • Beth Presswood

Matt was out of town at the Orange County Freethought alliance conference.

Took us ages, starting right around the turn of the century with a generous financial gift by one of our oldest members. So we were a little lucky there. But it took another 12 years or so to actually find the right building, at the right price, to meet our needs. It also helped that we spent the intervening years growing the profile of the group through our media efforts, which has helped solidify us as a community.

Congratulatios! The ACA inspires me. I look forward to meeting you guys in July when I’ll be in Texas.

  • Jim Charlotte

I hope you are getting all the tax benefits that would be afforded to a church.

  • LongTimeFan

Is that Ashley Perrien in the photo?

  • Beth

    Well done guys!

My first thought is that they should get their hands on a trail camera and set it up looking towards their sign. I give it less than a month before someone tags it.

  • ShoeUnited

Ah, alrighty. I was just a bit worried I was going to hear some bad news. I wish everyone in the ACA my best.
