An Atheist Version of ‘The Thaw’

Remember The Thaw, the video created by Reach America that featured young Christians talking about how they being persecuted for their faith and “frozen” out of the public square?

Now, Dustin and Jackie, atheists from Pennsylvania, have created a secular version of it (called “The Melt“):

Unlike the original video, this one isn’t full of crazy :)

Damn atheists, we need to understand, they only force their religion on us to prevent us burning in the fiery pits of hell or on the stake.

    Kinda sweet actually.

    • abb3w

The road to hell is paved with good intentions?

    • LadyNightthorn

Being an atheist I don’t believe in their hell. And it’s usually the Christians who supplied the stakes and fire.

  • Charles Honeycutt

Dustin and Jackie… please tell me that those two are going to form a company and call it Dustjacket Productions.

  • Space Cadet

    ::standing ovation::

Bravo, Dustin and Jackie. Well done.

  • Rain

You can tell it was a secular video because they laugh at themselves, whereas a religious video would pretend-laugh at themselves and also think everyone is stupid.

  • Octoberfurst

“The Melt” is a superb response to the asinine “The Thaw.” (Watching “The Thaw” almost made my head explode. Seriously. I had never seen so much bullshit in such a short video before.)

  • Travis Myers

They’re living up to the stereotype of Atheist videos being much poorer quality than Christian videos. In production value, not content.

    • Jasper

Guess which one has a well funded organization behind it

    • Dustin K

Yeah, I tried threatening Jackie with Hell to give me money to buy a camera and professional lighting, but for some reason she didn’t believe me. She let me use her laptop though.

      • Guest

Wow looks like my studio. Yeah the dreaded three-point lamp lighting lol.

      • Kevin_Of_Bangor

You two did an awesome job.

      • JET

You guys did a great job! You nailed it working with little more than a laptop and your brains. And no annoying whining. Thank you!

      • MD

I liked the assortment of headwear.

      • Matt

Great job Dustin, and Jackie as well. Ill be posting this to my facebook. Way to bring the facts.

      • islandbrewer

One request: Next time, don’t use the puppet. It kind of creeped me out (and it has nothing to do with my pupaphobia diagnosis).

    • Shannon

You should probably send them 10% of our income to help them out..

  • Paul Clark

Just seen this ‘Thaw’ , I want to jack slap each and every one of them with a bag of rocks.

  • Madalyn Murray Paine

This shows better than anything I’ve ever seen the importance of freedom from religion. If I believed in god, I’d thank him for you. You are wonderful young people. It gives me hope for the future of our country. Keep up the great work!

  • chicago dyke

gosh, the difference couldn’t be more clear.

religious video: well funded by who knows who. filled with unhappy and overweight looking (mostly white) kids who appear to be reading from a script. scare mongering.

atheist video: hand made, low budget, lots of brown people/nonconformists, mostly healthy looking, speaking from a script (The Constitution) and fact, mostly. confident, and positive.

if i were an alien just landing on this planet, i know who i would seek out.

    • Roger Peritone

Ah! That would depend though, on what your motives were as an alien, wouldn’t it?

    • Kles

Dude did you even watch it? There are only two people in “the melt”….

    • LizBert

Because everyone knows that being overweight is a moral failing that atheists never commit.

    • JKPS

What does weight have to do with anything? And did you watch the atheist video without realizing there are only TWO people? And what does a big budget vs. low budget matter?!

You should focus on the points made, rather than how the videos and the people making them look.

  • Roger Peritone

    There, that’s how it’s done.

Edit, NOT the slapping with rocks thing…I mean the video!

  • Shannon

Great job making it clear for not only kids but adults to understand :D Thank you for your hard work.

  • Crystal Bandy Thomas

Thank you Jackie and Dustin! I’ve posted “The Melt” to my FB… Simply and brilliantly put!

  • DougI

    Dustin wears nice touks.

  • Randay

“The Thaw”, I thought that Xians were taught that it is a sin to lie, yet this video is just a succession of lies.

    • Renshia

Oh it’s okay if they’re lying for jesus. In the same way it was okay to burn people at the stake.

      • Randay

Come to think about it, if Jesus actually existed which I doubt, he was quite a liar himself.

  • SeekerLancer

The plural of Jedi is Jedi.

    *puts on pathetic geek glasses*

    • Uncle Washy

I still say the singular form should be ‘Jedus,’ but I’ll admit it doesn’t have quite the same ring.

  • Little Magpie

    150% made of win.

  • Sara Meyer

That was awesome! I live in the town where Reach America is located and your video is a breath of fresh air. Thank you!

    • q_the_physicist

Doing a little research about Coeur d’Alene, where Reach America is, I discovered that this town is a mere 6 miles from the 20-year headquarters of the Aryan Nations group, which is a white-supremacist organization that adheres to Christian Identity principles. Among other things, they believe that “… the white people of Europe or Caucasians in general are God’s servant people according to the promises that were given to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. It further asserts that the early European tribes were really the Ten Lost Tribes of Israel and therefore the rightful heirs to God’s promises, and God’s chosen people. (From Wiki on Christian Identity)”. I am not surprised, then, at the tone of the Thaw video, given the organization is headquartered in THE hotbed of the White Supremacy movement.

  • dont care

this has absolutly nothing to do with me or anyone i know, mostly because i live in Ireland (which has far more freedom than the states but thats neither here nor there) my response is simply: “Pancake”

  • Lisa Marie

I swear if I have one more person tell me that “atheism is a kind of religion.” I am going to vomit. I was raised catholic and I can quote bible scripture…and then at 12 i decided to stop believing in imaginary friends and the priests were upset with me because i questioned how Adam and Eve could have made the world with only 2 sets of DNA. Or who made god since it made no sense that he was just always there… I have had people say”oh your an atheist? And here i thought you were a nice person..”umm…so I am suddenly bad because i try to be a good person because its the right thing to do not because I am afraid the cosmic sky wizard will get mad and punish me? So yeah fully agree with this..and also…one of my best friends in high school was a devout catholic and we go along just fine. I don’t have anything against god..its his fan club I can’t stand…they get just as up in arms if someone insults their god as a tween girl on team Edward suggests that sparkly vampires are not hot. Think about it theists. You think they look silly screaming at the opening of a movie but you think its ok to tell random strangers they are going to hell because they don’t go to your church…seriously.

  • Roger Peritone

    More xian whinging right here:

  • Jordan

They should read a little thing called the second amendment. It’s kind of important

  • JimH

Have you ever taken a basic biology course? You quite obviously do not understand how cells and DNA work. I think before you post absurdity, you should verify all of your facts.
