***Update***: I noted below that the YHC is still looking for a Chaplain, but Chris Stedman informed me that his role will essentially fulfill the position of a chaplain without using the word. Yale has a single University Chaplain and others in such roles use the title “Coordinator of ____ Life.”
While they’re still working on creating a position for a Humanist Chaplain, the Yale Humanist Community has made their first hires and they’re both fantastic additions: Paul Chiariello (Director of Operations) and Chris Stedman (Coordinator of Humanist Life).
Chiariello’s background involves being the webmaster at the Humanist Chaplaincy at Rutgers University as well as the founding Program Director for Camp Quest New England and Chief Editor of Applied Sentience. Stedman, of course, is the Assistant Humanist Chaplain at Harvard University and author of Faitheist.Their first speaker event takes place this week and features bestselling author Susan Jacoby:
On Tuesday, September 10th at 7:00 PM, the Yale Humanist Community will host Pulitzer Prize-nominated author Susan Jacoby (Freethinkers, The Great Agnostic) for a lecture on how secular ethics bear on public policy and everyday life from growing income inequality in our society to women’s rights.
The event is free to the public. For more information about the YHC, check out their website!
