Sponsor Richard Wade and Atheists United at the AIDS Walk Los Angeles!

This is your chance to save lives and help the atheist cause! On Sunday, October 13 many tens of thousands of people will see atheists being not just good, but EXCELLENT!

AIDS Walk LA crowd

Since its inception in 1985, the annual AIDS Walk Los Angeles has grown into the largest AIDS fundraising event in California and has raised a total of $75 million to support the services provided by AIDS Project Los Angeles (APLA) and more than 20 other AIDS service organizations in Los Angeles County. It attracts 30,000 participants each year.

I will be walking the 10 km route through West Hollywood with the Atheists United team in our bright red t-shirts with the Atheists United name, phone number, and web address. So far, 13 god-free good guys and gals are ready to joyfully join the massive crowds.

My personal goal is to raise $1,000, and with the help of three dear friends, it’s already at $200. You can help me reach that goal, help conquer AIDS, and help atheists demolish that annoying stereotype of our being selfish nihilists who don’t care about anything.

My donation page is here. That means you click on those blue words back there. This is Richard asking for something for once. You, know, the guy who writes “Ask Richard” and those awesome daily comments? Puppies are Cute? The Joe Klein meme?

Tongue-in-cheek prodding aside, I’m very grateful for anything you can contribute. Regardless of the amount we raise, I’m going to thoroughly enjoy walking openly and happily with my friends in Atheists United, and if you’re in the Los Angeles area, please join us.

Be an actual part of this remarkable period of history in which we live, when secular people will increasingly make positive contributions to society’s progress.

Funny how you don’t see Joe Klein raising money for AIDS research.

Goddamit you beat me to it!

And then m6wg4bxw beat me to a Hemant rocks comment.

Well, I guess I gotta comment on the article.

      Um. Yay condoms!

Sorry for that! You’re stuck with relevance and substance, both of which are unlikely to come from someone like me.

I’m irrelevant and insubstantial. But I am glad that people are organizing for awareness. Whether we’re seen or not. People need the help. Look at how much better treatment has gotten since it was discovered. We went from “The Gay Disease” to “Epidemic” to “Philidelphia” to now it’s pretty manageable. I just hope we don’t stop there. I’d hate for Chris Rock to be right.

What I meant was, most of my comments on this blog are attempts to make jokes, bitchy complaints, or remarks irrelevant to the subject in the post. I contribute very little substance to the local discourse.

Don’t think that “Hemant rocks!” sign has gone unnoticed.

I like to make jokes about the phrase, “Jesus rocks.” For example, if someone says it, I ask them if those are what they use to stone sinners. Or, Jesus rocks are what Christians were hit in the head with to make them believe such ridiculous ideas.

How might Hemant rocks be used?

Repairing the wall of separation of church and state. :)
