In an interview with Patheos’ Jonathan Ryan, Answers in Genesis’ Ken Ham explains what we’ve known all along: This debate against Bill Nye is just a way to push the false notion that there’s actually a scientific debate taking place over Creationism:
I hope my debate with Mr. Nye will create a bigger spotlight on the whole creation vs. evolution debate and to the Word of God and its gospel message. The debate will help point out that there is significant dissent in the scientific community about whether or not molecules-to-man evolution is a true explanation of origins.
There sure as hell isn’t significant dissent.
This is precisely why this debate shouldn’t be happening in the first place. It gives Creationists far more credit and attention than they deserve, offering them a pedestal on which they can spew their gibberish to viewers while taking full advantage of the credibility of Bill Nye.
Once the debate is over, no one at the Creation Museum will be talking about the points that were made. But they’ll be talking about how the debate took place for years to come.
