A Film About Questioning Your Fundamental Beliefs

Last year, I posted about Nathan Deming‘s 20-minute film about giving up his faith and regaining both his sexuality and sanity. It’s called “Tongues” (some scenes NSFW):

Deming is now taking that idea and turning it into a feature-length film called Speaking in Tongues.

This is a film for anyone who’s ever had to question their fundamental beliefs, or found themselves too far down the wrong path. It is the story of a young man, Jake, who is unsure where he’s going and clings to a definite answer when what he needs to learn is to embrace the fact that he can’t control his future. It’s a character study of a young pastor and his enthusiastic twentysomething bro-sciples, crammed together in a small sweaty Chicago apartment for three months. Speaking In Tongues is a film we passionately want to make because writing it has forced us both to look more closely at why we believe what we believe – with or without religion.

While the initial funding for the film has been secured, they are raising a little more to help cover odds & ends. Check out their fundraising page and consider chipping in if this is something you’d like to see.
