Colorado State Rep. Gordon Klingenschmitt, who doubles as the host of his own paranoia-fueled “Pray In Jesus Name” talk show, sent a warning to the Boy Scouts of America today before they officially open the doors to gay scout leaders.
Says Klingenschmitt: That’ll lead to all sorts of child abuse:
If your boy is in one of those organizations, you need to get him out of there, because what they’re going to do is promote homosexual men to mentoring and camping with your boys in the woods and it will lead to child abuse. I’m just sayin’.
This is just fear mongering among conservatives who think homosexuality and pedophilia are somehow linked together.
What’s especially weird is that Klingenschmitt cited Matthew 18:6, which says:
If anyone causes one of these little ones — those who believe in me — to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.
Did you catch that?
Not the part about how Jesus wants sinners to be killed, but how it’s the children who are making a mistake? As if the gay scout leaders might cause the children to “stumble” away from God (by allowing themselves to be molested)… What the hell?!
I know we’re talking about the same guy who once said a woman got stabbed because abortion is legal, but this is pretty awful, even for a fundamentalist.
