Say Hello to “Austin Humanists at Work”

I’ve posted several times about the group “Austin Atheists Helping the Homeless” and their various giveaways over the years. It’s a wonderful, local, volunteer-led effort to help those less fortunate, and it’s amazing how far they can stretch their donations.

Over the years, they’ve expanded to different cities. And now, after looking at the kind of work they’re doing and the kind of people they’re helping, they’ve decided to do a little rebranding.

They’re now called “Austin Humanists at Work.”

Why the change?

First, the old name was extremely long and was a borderline tongue twister. Second, we felt the term “homeless” in the name didn’t truly represent every person who comes through our line. We also help those who have fallen on hard times and just need a little help from their community. Third, we are a group that has grown to include people from all walks of life. Volunteers include people who are atheists, agnostic, secular, freethinkers and even those who are theists. Inclusivity has made us grow stronger and more organized. While we are still very proud of who we are and where we started, we want to grow with our community and show all humans can truly help others without labels at all.

All good reasons for a reboot.

If you’d like to help them out, they have a wish list on Amazon of items they need for future giveaways. Anything you can purchase would be going to a great cause.
