Jehovah’s Witnesses Release Disturbing Anti-Gay Video Aimed at Children

In a disturbing video released by the Jehovah’s Witnesses and mirrored by others on YouTube, a little girl learns an important lesson after telling her mother about a classmate who has (*gasp*) two moms.

The mother proceeds to tell the child why same-sex couples are going against the will of Jehovah by comparing gay marriage to a terrorist trying to get through airport security… and telling the daughter that “people can change,” a subtle nod to the widely debunked notion that gay people can turn straight, something JWs believe regardless of the evidence against it.

MOTHER: It’s kind of like going on an airplane. What would happen if someone wanted to bring something on the plane that wasn’t allowed?

DAUGHTER: He couldn’t go on the trip!

MOTHER: Right! It’s the same with Jehovah. He wants us to be His friend and live in Paradise forever! But we have to follow His standards to get there.

DAUGHTER: But I want everyone to get to Paradise!

MOTHER: So does Jehovah! And you know what? People can change. That’s why we share His message.

What an awful message to teach your children.

That the only way gay people can be truly happy is to deny themselves a loving relationship. That people can just “turn off” the gay switch. That there’s anything wrong with a family that doesn’t resemble your own. That the TSA won’t allow you to bring a bag full of gay genes through the metal detector.

JW watchdog Lloyd Evans says the airport metaphor also fails on another level:

… the metaphor implies that if the traveler chooses against surrendering the forbidden item, the worst that will happen is that his ticket will be cancelled and he will be forced to browse the duty free before hailing a cab and making his way back to the hotel. But that is not how it works according to Jehovah’s Witness teachings.

If the metaphor were accurately and fully followed through, we would see the traveller being bundled away by security and thrown into a 1940s cattle cart, along with all others deemed undesirable by the Governing Body, before being dispatched to the great extermination camp of Armageddon.

This is not a case of “follow us, or don’t fly,” this is a case of “follow us, or die.”

You can see his full takedown of the video below:

Even by the Watchtower Society’s absurdly low standards, the mother could have easily said, “We don’t believe gays and lesbians can get into Paradise, but not everyone agrees with us. They have a right to get married, though, just like we have the right to believe whatever we want. What’s important is that you love and respect your friend.”

Instead, she taught her child that gay and lesbian parents are doomed for the crime of being together and that it’s up to the daughter to “save” her friend.

If that’s what Jehovah’s love looks like, let’s hope more people get out of that cult ASAP.
