Bill Nye on Ark Encounter: Creationists Are Raising “Kids Who Are Scientifically Illiterate”

Laurie Goodstein of the New York Times has a lengthy story up about Ark Encounter, summarizing the theme park and all the controversy surrounding it.

This line from Bill Nye accurately represents what so many of us critics are worried about:

“We’re going to raise a generation of kids who are scientifically illiterate,” said Mr. Nye, who debated Mr. Ham at the Creation Museum in 2014, a matchup watched online by millions.

While most of the story is familiar to regular readers of this site, I have to draw special attention to this observation by Goodstein at the end of the piece, referring to the fact that the legal battles seem to have died down for now:

The ark is now in calmer waters. The workers, standing on hydraulic lifts, have covered over the Tyvek, and just in time. The Tyvek was printed all over with the slogan of its maker, Dupont: “The Miracles of Science.”

Beautiful. The “miracles of science”… used to promote an embarrassment of pseudoscience.

By the way, we’ll have full coverage of Opening Day of the Ark on July 7. We’ll have people on-site, coverage of the protests, and posts about everything happening in and around the park. Stay tuned.

On a side note: Check out the headline from the NYT article:

And then compare it to this one, from an article about Ark Encounter published in Newsweek this past January:

I assume it’s just a coincidence. But still weird.
