20 Pro-Science Billboards Went Up in Sioux Falls, SD, and the Designs Will Give You a Heart Attack

Back in May, Dale Hemming, the one-man show behind the Sioux Falls Atheists, paid for more than 20 billboards (most of which were digital) to go up in South Dakota.

Now he’s back with a collection of billboards, both static and digital, to promote science — specifically evolution and climate change. Once again, graphic designers may want to look away before they have a collective heart attack.

Those billboards are all static. The following are digital and change images if you look long enough:

Obviously evolution and climate change aren’t “facts,” per se, just theories backed by overwhelming amounts of evidence. But if the word “theory” leads to denial by ignorant people — as if the T-word makes it easier to dismiss — then I’m tempted to lay off on Hemming’s use of “fact” just to make a point.

“The campaign’s objectives are to make the public aware that Global Warming is a fact and Evolution is a fact,” said [Hemming]. “I don’t think they people should vote for any public representative that denies the reality of Global Warming. I’m also concerned that some religious leaders prefer to teach Dark Age superstition, when we live in an era of scientific facts, such as Evolution.”

The billboards will be up for at least a month.
