Evangelist Franklin Graham is Furious That a Gay Couple Is In an Ad Featuring the NFL’s Kiss Cam

On Valentine’s Day, a new video created by the Ad Council and R/GA showcased a more diverse group of people on the kiss cam during the 2017 NFL Pro Bowl in Orlando. It included an interracial couple, a person in a wheelchair, close friends, a survivor of the Pulse nightclub massacre… and a gay couple.

The description of the video explains why these particular people were highlighted:

For years, kiss cams have been a big part of American sports culture. This year, Love Has No Labels puts a twist on the kiss cam by turning it into a symbol for unbiased love. In the stadium, fans cheered for love in all its forms — regardless of race, gender, disability, age or religion.

Good on the NFL for embracing this — it’s a really beautiful video.

But we all know love is conditional if you’re an evangelical Christian, and that’s why Franklin Graham was quick to denounce this public display of sin:

Football season is over and the Super Bowl is behind us. But the NFL is trying to push homosexuality through a new pro same-sex ad. In this ad they show two men kissing each other and two women kissing each other on the “kiss cam.” They’re trying to define sin as love and make it acceptable. This generation is being bombarded with an upside-down version of truth and love. Don’t fall for it. We have to love people enough to tell them the truth about sin and warn them of its consequences as defined by God, not man. Go to the NFL’s Facebook page and tell them how disappointed you are that they are promoting this agenda.

Raise your hand if watching that ad turned you gay.

Or if Franklin Graham has ever been your go-to example of someone showing love.

I’ll wait.

Meanwhile, Graham had nothing to say on Facebook when the NFL was being trashed for its lenient punishments to players who were charged with domestic abuse. He couldn’t get worked up enough about that.

But two men kissing on a big screen? SOMEONE STOP THE MADNESS!

Graham was even more apoplectic this morning, discussing how the NFL might take future Super Bowls away from Texas if the state adopts a “bathroom bill” designed to discriminate against transgender people.

It’s not like his diatribes are working. Christians aren’t going to stop watching football (or the NBA or the NCAA) just because the leagues become more tolerant and inclusive.

Remember: Churches have to work harder to pull people away from sports than the other way around. Graham’s bigotry isn’t going to change that.
