Army Secretary Nominee Mark Green: I’m Not a Bigot Just Because I Routinely Say Bigoted Things

Ever since we learned that Donald Trump would nominate former flight surgeon Mark Green as the next Secretary of the Army, there’s been a lot of reporting on Green’s anti-LGBT past. It’s not hard, either, since Green doesn’t exactly hide his views.

GreenBigotSpeech

For example, as state senator in Tennessee, he sponsored a bill that would forbid government agencies (including public universities) from refusing to work with companies just because they discriminated against LGBT people. Bigotry would no longer be an acceptable reason to say “We don’t want to do business with them.”

In 2016, he told a Tea Party gathering that he agreed with psychiatrists that “transgender is a disease.” (Psychiatrists don’t say that at all.)

He has opposed transgender people using the appropriate bathrooms because he believes the lie that “bathroom bills” protect women and children. When describing that position, he cited the Bible as justification to “crush evil”… even thought there are virtually no reported incidents of trans people assaulting women in bathrooms (and even though we already have laws against such assault).

You get the idea here. Green is a bigot who holds conservative Christian views on matters of sexual orientation and gender identity — and the proof comes via his own statements and actions.

But as we’ve seen from conservatives so many times, Green doesn’t like it when the media quotes his old lines right back at him. He thinks that kind of biased reporting — also called journalism — is part of some left-wing agenda, as he expressed on Facebook:

The liberal left has cut and spliced my words about terrorism and ISIS blatantly falsifying what I’ve said. Let me be very clear,

1) The only people I have ever called evil are murderous terrorists trying to kill Americans.

2) The only people I have ever suggested be crushed are the terrorist enemies of our nation.

3) I have never and will never force my religion on anyone. If God gives Mankind a choice, which I believe, who am I to force my faith on anyone?

4) I believe that every American has a right to defend their country regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, and religion. It’s the radical left that won’t allow the latter.

5) I have never considered myself a judge of anyone, but I have been a protector of everyone in this nation.

It would seem that this gentleman has figured out why certain people are cutting and splicing my words to paint me as a hater. It will not stand.

Mark

No wonder Trump likes this guy: Green lies almost as much — and just as badly —
as he does.

No one is attacking Green because he’s a Christian. There are plenty of Christians in the government who frequently refer to their faith. (Believe it or not, we just had a guy like that in the White House.)

Green shouldn’t be the Army Secretary because it’s clear he doesn’t have respect for the LGBT people who serve honorably in the military.

Maybe if he listened to himself talk, he’d realize that.
