Christian Radio Host: The U.S. Should Ban Jehovah’s Witnesses Like Russia Did

Russia’s Supreme Court said in April that the Jehovah’s Witnesses were an “extremist” group that must give the government all of their property. The religious group, which has 175,000 believers in the country, was effectively banned. We can disagree with their beliefs and harmful policies all we want, but this was a clear example of punishing thought that went too far.

Christian radio broadcaster Rick Wiles disagrees. In fact, he said on his “TruNews” program that he wishes we would do the same thing in the United States.

Wiles was also outraged that some Christians are “condemning Russia for being an anti-Christian nation that persecuted Christians” simply because it had banned the Jehovah’s Witnesses and seized the group’s churches.

“You know what the Russians did?” Wiles asked. “They banned the Jehovah’s Witnesses. Kicked them out of the country. Well, congratulations! I’m glad you did it. I wish we could do it. I wish we could get rid of all the cults in this country. We’d be better off for it.”

Wiles is an End Times enthusiast. He’s part of what many people would call a “cult.” He doesn’t seem to understand that religious persecution could eventually be used against him, and that’s why we value freedom of religion and free speech in this country. You might want to silence certain groups, but as long as that option is on the table, then someone else may be able to silence you.

That’s why the Christian persecution crowd ought to be on the front lines of condemning Russia’s actions. But they don’t have much empathy for people who don’t believe exactly as they do.
