Public Records Reveal Lots of Backlash Against Satanic War Memorial in MN Town

For the past six months, the city of Belle Plaine (MN) has been embroiled in a controversy involving a Christian monument in Veterans Memorial Park. Because that park is public, The Satanic Temple applied to put their own monument for veterans right next to the display of a kneeling soldier in front of a Christian cross.

Last month, just before the installation was set to take place, the Belle Plaine City Council voted to eliminate the “free speech zone” for good. Rather than have a Satanic monument go up, they would remove the Christian monument.

It was frustrating… but at least it was fair. And that’s where we left it.

But Temple spokesperson Lucien Greaves and Evan Anderson went a step further. They requested the public records for all emails sent to and from the city regarding the Satanic monument. That includes the complaints the city received from concerns citizens. They just published and analyzed the documents at MuckRock.

The complaints are incredible, like this one from a guy named Jim Steen:

If your City allows the satanic statue, I will never support you or never spend a penny in a town such as Satan. thanks

There’s also someone who wrote in large letters:

Please reject the proposed monument of satin

Satin would be displeased.

Other complaints included:

We don’t want kids seeing satanic images in our parks. Please say NO to satan.

In essence, you just gave the Keys to the City to Satan. Very Dumb.

How can you allow such an evil symbol to mar the grandeur and beauty of the churches in your city?

I am concerned that the City of Belle Plaine’s approval of monuments sponsored by organizations that promote Satanic activity, anarchy, or atheism could be interpreted as unpatriotic at best and treasonous at worst, since the existence of the Creator, that is, the God of Nature, is acknowledged by the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America as not only existing, but being the very author of our rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Although I am not a resident of Belle Plaine, I am a resident of a neighboring Minnesota county and I cannot stay quiet about this. It is time to stand up and say “enough is enough” to the propagation of evil in our midst — it is one thing to turn a blind eye to the gradual erosion of morality and the family over time through the constant messaging to our kids, and that must certainly be countered as well. But whether you like it or not, erecting this monument in Belle Plaine is a very blatant statement that your city accepts and welcomes the presence of evil there. You must not let this happen.

You are inviting evil into our community of a nature that will destroy many people. How absurd. You must put an end to this attack on all that is good.

Please sir, search you heart…I beg you not to commit this sin of rejecting God’s Love.

You can skim through all the emails right here.

Like I said, the monument didn’t ultimately go up, but the Satanists still got what they wanted, which was equal treatment. If Christians are upset by that, they had an option available to them: Share the space. The Council voted that down because they didn’t want more complaints from people who assumed a monument for veterans sponsored by Satanists would lead to something something evil.
