Unbeknownst To Me, I Was Mentioned in a Commercial for ‘Preachers of L.A.’

It’s finally happened: I’ve been quoted in a commercial for a soon-to-be-canceled reality show:

(Which, by the way, is better than the time I found out I appeared in an anti-gay marriage ad.)

Jon Stewart’s Extended Interview with Richard Dawkins

In case you missed it, here’s the extended interview with Richard Dawkins from last night’s episode of The Daily Show.

Part One aired on TV (and my response is here), Parts Two and Three are only online.

There’s an awkward moment near the middle of Part Two when Stewart asks Dawkins where he goes where he dies. Dawkins hesitates and Stewart takes the opportunity to chime in, “So you don’t know.” Dawkins eventually responds, but it’s disappointing he didn’t have a pithy one-liner ready to go for that.

Mr Tüzer … is planning to bring out an album with his band next month. One song is titled Mevlaya gel, or Come to God. “I want to celebrate Allah in every place,” he told Turkey’s Anadolu news agency. “I don’t think I have caused the slightest damage to my institution.”

But the Turkish government — officially secular, but deeply entangled with Islam — recently launched an investigation against Tüzer, because being an imam “is not just like any other job,” a spokesman explained. “Things that are viewed as normal when it comes to other civil servants are viewed differently with respect to imams.”
