Making Art of Annual Divination

Last year's Midsummer divination and the image I used to represent it. "Collage" can mean just one photo, if it speaks loudly.

I was so busy working with my Decluttering for the Samhain Soul challenge that I haven’t yet done my annual Samhain divination project. So, I’ll be saving my big annual Divination Fest for astrological Samhain, which this year is November 6. That is the day the Sun arrives at 15 Scorpio, precisely halfway between the [Read More...]

Decluttering For The Samhain Soul: Day 5. The Ritual

Most of the year, I keep a small, ceramic box of earth sitting near a figure of Kuan Yin. The box of earth holds soil from two places. One, more black, is from the field that is in front of my Grandma and Grandpa Wright’s house. Less than a month after his funeral, I walked [Read More...]

Decluttering for the Samhain Soul, Day 4: Who’s Your Ninshubur?

Inanna with two of her symbols, the lion and the eight-pointed Venus star.

Who is your Ninshubur? “Ninshubur, my constant support, My sukkal who gives me wise advice, My warrior who fights by my side.” (From one translation of Inanna’s descent.) Ninshubur. She who fights beside me. Queen of the East. Messenger for Inanna and other Gods, perhaps the cousin and forerunner of my beloved Hermes. Today, think [Read More...]

Decluttering for the Samhain Soul, Day 3: Do Something!

Today's message--you have it good. Quit crying over spilled wine and hanging on to the past if you want to move forward. My cards, they do repeat themselves.

Today is a “do something” day. We’ve spent a couple days focusing on the issues that are most cluttering our internal closets and blocking the progress we want to make in our lives. Today, we move something physical. We declutter—something. Just one something. Today, we start with the Power of One. This will help us [Read More...]

Decluttering for the Samhain Soul: Day 2

Altar for my own Decluttering for the Samhain Soul working.

Each journey needs a beginning. Our Samhain ritual journey’s starting spot will be either an altar or an artwork, or a bit of both. Traditional Samhain altars I’m familiar with tend to have certain elements in common: images of dead family members or friends; candles; crystals, or other natural items; images of skulls or bones; [Read More...]

Decluttering for the Samhain Soul: Day 1

The Six of Wands and Berkana urge me to embrace joy and new beginnings to help overcome the past's stagnant energy.

“Dad is being transferred. We’re moving. Go to your room and go through your things and get rid of the ones you don’t need any more.” I first heard that sentence from my mother when I was seven years old. Seven. How do you know, at seven, what you don’t need any more? I loved [Read More...]

A Five-Day Decluttering Ritual For The Samhain Soul

Today's ritual takes us down the path to the Crossroads between the worlds.

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about decluttering. Not just the kind that has left me, for the first time in my life, with more drawer space than things to put in them. But the kind of decluttering that led me to hold on to some physical objects and all the emotions trailing from them [Read More...]
