Hey Geeks, As you know, The Rogue is going to be present at Salt Lake City Comic Con in a variety of ways. We'll outline our coverage more extensively in future posts. Plus, it's rumored that I'll be participating in some panel discussions to promote 3 Gates of the Dead for Open Road Media. The folks who run the Con had a press conference today to make the following announcements. First, some really cool new guests..... -Simon Helberg plays Howard Wolowitz, a nerdy and aspiring … [Read more...]

You Do Wurds Good? Legendary Editor agrees to work with me. (Yay. Oh, Crap.)

Snoopy 8

So, today, my Wonder Woman agent, Italia Gandolfo, sent me this text: Betsy Mitchell is going to be your editor at Open Road. I stared at the text for a moment in utter disbelief. Then I texted back with a link to Betsy's bio You mean, THIS Betsy Mitchell?  Wonder Woman Agent texts back That's her. (Madcap mayhem ensues as I alternate between exultation and absolute panic.) For those of you wondering why I would panic, Betsy has edited some pretty legendary … [Read more...]

I'm beyond excited because I'm going to my first Comic Con in Salt Lake City on September 4-6.  It's the largest per captia in the nation, and ranked in the top four cons in attendance. There is a major international buzz developing over this event. I'm going as official Press for the event, as well as hanging out with the ladies at Teen Author Boot Camp at their booth. Word is, I might have book marks with the cover of Revolution of the Wolf and Ghost Bear there. Maybe. Possibly. We here … [Read more...]

Open Road…..take me home…..(Big Ole Publishing News)

open-road

Once upon a time, there was this little book called 3 Gates of the Dead. The writer despaired that it would never see the light of day after two agents exploded on him. Then, his amazing friend, Italia Gandolfo, became his amazing agent and she went to work. She found a new, cutting edge publisher in Los Angeles called Premier Publishing, with an incredible board of highly accomplished executives, including super-agent Joel Gotler. The company started off as a digital publisher, but … [Read more...]

Radio Free Geek: Interview with Dungeon Crawler Radio

DCR Gold Logo

(I  (Jo Schaffer) met Daniel Swenson(aka Revan)at the LTUE writing conference in Provo, Utah. He sat at a table with a bunch of microphones interviewing authors and attendees at the event. Curious, I stopped to chat with him. Turns out he runs the fabulously geeky, Dungeon Crawler Radio. I later had the opportunity to be interviewed on the show along with Jonathan Ryan. We talked a little bit about Teen Author Boot Camp, comic books and movies. (The Man of Steel debate got a bit … [Read more...]

I Sold My Soul to Amazon; Plus, Major 3 Gates News.

Here is a straightforward fact; Amazon is helping make my writing career through the huge success of 3 Gates of the Dead. I know there are a lot of people who beat the "anti-Amazon" drum with intense fervor. In truth, I used to be one of them until I realized the absolute hypocrisy of doing so. I'm not saying Amazon doesn't have some complicating things that go along with their business model. Others have written about it in a much more detailed and nuanced critique (Google it sometime). I … [Read more...]

Geek Goes Catholic, Part Two: In the Lair of Richard Dawkins

download

For four years, I spent time hanging out with atheists at The Ohio State University. I started a group called The Thomas Society (after St. Thomas the Doubter) where everyone was welcome. Our weekly meetings often consisted of atheists, agnostics, Christians, Jewish rabbis, and an odd assortment of students from campus. As I look back on it, I realize this sort of thing doesn’t happen much. During the meetings, I adopted a “no question off limits” and “no edit policy” with only one … [Read more...]

He's done over forty movies and is one of the most talent individuals we've ever seen.
