Grace Unplugged: A fine film for Evangelical families…and that’s the problem

(Possible Spoilers Ahead)Allow me to say something at the beginning of this review, in case people think I'm trying to be overly negative.  Grace Unplugged is probably one of the best "Christian" films I've seen. The acting is great, the script is decent, and the movie well made. You can take your evangelical family and you will get a safe, non-offensive movie going experience. And that's the problem.Grace Unplugged follows the story of eighteen-year-old Grace Trey (AJ Michalka) who … [Read more...]

Grace Unplugged: Creating Art out of Personal Pain.

One of the questions I get as a writer is: where do I get my ideas? I find it a difficult question to answer, because some of my stories are grounded in deep personal pain that I have no wish to discuss with the wider world. Usually, I give some lame answer about “not really knowing.”A few weeks ago, I went to the press junket for Grace Unplugged. However you want to slice it, that’s a lot of music in a short amount of time. It also means Webb has had a lot to share with us as he’s matured an … [Read more...]

From Geek Goes Rogue TV Editor Zach Lorton, as told to by the spiky-haired, spandex-clad frontman who's been hanging around his front porch for the last 23 years...As I write this, early albums from Journey are shuffling on my media player.Don't judge me.Music has always been the first passion in my life.  From a young age when I would play a 45-rpm record over and over again until it drove my mother nuts, I remember discovering the thrill of playing brass instruments, weathering the … [Read more...]

Christian Music…Why Does It Suck? What Can Be Done?

images

What does it mean to make music with purpose or inspiration in this day in age? On one hand, it can be argued that everyone who makes music is inspired toward some sort of purpose. But specifically, what does it mean for Christians to make music in today’s culture? And what on earth is “Christian music” anyway? And how does it differ from any other kind of music that tries to tell an honest story? And is saying you only listen to Christian music the same thing as saying you only use Christian toi … [Read more...]
