A TREMOR IN THE FORCE – Episode 5 of 5

It's taken me to episode five of this blog series to finally figure out why I was so disappointed by the Star Wars prequels. Well, I have untied the knots! The hyperdrive has been repaired in the nick of time! I feel the Force flowing through me once again...So, I re-watched the prequels, from my own couch. (They were previously banned from entering my house.) My mind was eager. My heart was open. First of all—standing ovation to the artists and technicians of all kinds who made these m … [Read more...]

My Sad Devotion To An Ancient Religion

(Jonathan Ryan posting for Jen Schlameuss-Perry.) This is going to sound really messed up at first, but that scene in Star Wars: A New Hope, when the Imperial Officers are all talking about their plans for the Death Star and Vader says, “I find your lack of faith disturbing,” and then uses the Force to choke Admiral Motti expresses so perfectly what being religious feels like sometimes. In case you don’t know what I’m talking about, it’s this part:It’s not the part w … [Read more...]

Soul Soothing Sounds of Star Wars

(Jonathan Ryan posting for Jen Schlameuss-Perry.) Saturday night I purchased a Star Wars album on iTunes because my stupid phone won’t let me have my Star Wars CD on it since it last updated.  Anyhoo… I got to listen to the album on my way to work Sunday morning, rather loudly, in my car.  This particular version comes with the “Fox Fanfare” and then goes into the “Main Title” for A New Hope.  I often have an emotional response (not bawling or anything) to some of the Star Wars music … [Read more...]

A TREMOR IN THE FORCE – Part 4 of 5

What is Captain Kirk doing in a series on Star Wars?  Well, I personally don't mind a Shatner cameo anywhere, but it actually has a lot to do with my journey to the ______ side.  (Fill in the blank based on your prequel proclivity.) WARP SPEED HYPOCRISYMy Star-Wars-is-a-banquet-come-as-you-please change of heart actually reveals my own hypocrisy. It's called (and this term I hereby coin) Warp Speed Hypocrisy.I love Star Trek. I LOVE Star Trek. Every rerun brings me home to my happy p … [Read more...]

A TREMOR IN THE FORCE – Part 3 of 5

As we re-explore the Star Wars prequels and steel ourselves for the upcoming installments, we need to hear a grounding voice.  A deep, sonorous, awe-inspiring... terrifyingly epic voice.  Sith Lords are notoriously unafraid to state their opinions. Mark Fordham is an artist, filmmaker, former cop, father of five, husband of a Stormtroopette, seasoned veteran of the 501st Alpine Garrison, and a well-known Darth Vader impersonator.  Mark can be contacted through markfordham.com.  And m … [Read more...]

A TREMOR IN THE FORCE – Part 2 of 5

SO, what was it that changed me from a Star Wars prequel-hater to a... well... something different? As I debated "Jessi-Wan Kenobi," (AKA Jessica the Uberfan) on many occasions, she consistently drew upon Star Wars "stuff" not contained in the films---the Expanded Universe. Here is the definition of the Expanded Universe (now called "Star Wars Legends") from Wookiepedia: The Expanded Universe (or EU for short) encompasses every one of the officially licensed, fictional background stories of … [Read more...]

A TREMOR IN THE FORCE – Part 1 of 5

Are you ready for the new Star Wars movies? Were you ready for the prequels? Or does your spacefaring heart beat only for the original trilogy? You see, something weird happened to me. Something which may cause me to lift the ban preventing the prequel movies from getting within 100 feet of my house. And lest you think this is just some tired old rant, this little blog series will include interviews with Bryan Young (recognized guru and Con fixture who writes for starwars.com), Mark Fordham … [Read more...]

A Long Time Ago, in a FX Shop Far Away….A Tribute to Grant McCune, Star Wars World Maker

(As the next Star Wars Trilogy is being filmed, we here at Geek Goes Rogue are holding our breath. One of the things that made the original trilogy so great is that the worlds looked "lived in", unlike the shiny worlds of the new trilogy. Here is a tribute who made that look possible, Grant McCune written by our brand new writer, Jo Schaffer)When my husband,Clark and I lived in LA he had the absolute dream job for two Star Wars geeks like us. Working as Art Director for a Visual Effects shop … [Read more...]
