The New Age Candidate

Many Americans are fretting about the Mormon candidate, but for scary religious beliefs, what about Democratic candidate Dennis Kucinich? This article is about the rather geeky congressman managing to get himself a strikingly beautiful wife. But what is reveals is Kucinich’s over-the-top New Age beliefs. He is a disciple of Shirley MacLaine, a vegan, a devotee of New Age “consciousness” and “energy,” and the whole shebang, including, as is well known, the reality and mystical significance of UFO’s. In our post-Christian era, we may have to get used to the idea of overtly pagan leaders.

Somehow I would almost prefer an overtly pagan leader to a leader who is merely nominally Christian — or pays lipservice to Christianity while denying, or at least failing to acknowledge, such essential Christian beliefs as the divinity of Christ and the infallibility of Scripture. You see a lot of the latter in many candidates on both sides of the aisle these days, sadly.

Kucinish is a nutball, but he’s at least very straightforward in his beliefs and seems to act in accordance with them. Of course, a lot of horrible figures in world history did so as well, so that in itself doesn’t mean much. But I do have a sort of respect for him in that he doesn’t apologize for being a kook.

I would take an honest (fill in beleif system here) over someone who pretends to have faith. At least you would know what you’re getting.

Dennis is my congressman and I’ve voted against him every chance I can. Every news story that mentions him is a waste of paper, and every internet story about him (including this blog post and my reply) is a waste of electricity.

I remember how 30 years ago as “the boy mayor” his confrontational politics plunged Cleveland into default on its loans to local banks. I remember how he appointed a gay police chief from San Francisco in this hard-knuckle midwestern football town. I remember how he, more than anyone else, helped make “Cleveland” a stand-up comedy punchline.

Here’s a guy who works the bingo halls, pandering to ethnic working class Catholic ladies at reelection time, while hanging with Hollywood jet setters the rest of the time. It’s a testament to his remarkable tenacity (and union support) that he even holds still office, let alone being a dark horse presidential candidate.

The local free weekly liberal rag had his picture on the front cover with the caption “Dennis Kucinich has always been for the little guy — and that little guy is Dennis.” That’s what his own side says about him, the democrat left. That’s all you out-of-towners need to know about Kucinich. Thankfully, he will NOT be our first pagan president.

“The rather geeky congressman managing to get himself a strikingly beautiful wife”? Boy, I’m going to assume that the apparent shallowness in that statement is merely an attempt to capture the insipid nature of the linked-to article.

tODD, I’ve spoken to Kucinich on several occasions over a 20 year period, trust me, he’s a geek. All three of his wives have been too nice looking for him, which simply proves that status is attractive to women, something every guy should know anyway.

Jay (@5), I’m not sure you improved on the shallowness I was complaining about. And in the process you made Mrs. Kucinich out to be nothing more than a status-seeker. Touche.

I’m not questioning if he’s a geek or not. I’m questioning a worldview in which there must be ulterior motives for attractive women to be attracted to geeks. What, because all attractive women are shallow and couldn’t possibly enjoy a man because they appreciate his ideas or his personality? Since I lack status, does this mean that (a) I’m attractive or (b) my wife isn’t? (Please don’t answer that.)

I realize this is all quite trivial, but criminy — “his wives have been too nice looking for him”? Don’t Christians care about inner beauty, too, or is that so much argle-bargle?

    #6 Todd

touchy , touchy. and not trivial at all brother Todd! Heck no.

Me and Rock Hudson (when he was alive at least), along with carey grant, and quite a few others (let’s leave them unnamed, yet prominent scientologist actors…not to gossip but you KNOW who the two guys I mean, even **I** would not ditch Nicole Kidman…….)

    ARE babe MAGNETS.

Go figure. Eat your heart out.

Maybe chicks care about a guy’s “sensitivity” even more than inner or outward beauty, and an ability to accessorize doesn´t hurt…..also that they sense that we are not trying to get into their pants but are not sure why not…..but are attracted to that….

not sure what I just said has to do with Dennis…

now this thread was about… oh yeah Kusinich. Lots of gurly-men (as our Govern-ator would say…) just love Dennis. Now I get why that is….. Thanks Jay-from-Dennisland!

So now this thread is back on track. whew….
