Rev. & Mrs. Huckabee

Slate has an interesting portrait of Mike Huckabee and his wife Janet. It covers their faith and their relationship. While the piece is rather condescending, it notes with approval their genuine concern for the down-and-out that some consider “liberal,” but which grew out of their experiences when Mike served as a pastor. The article’s account of what pastors do will probably come as a surprise to many of Slate’s readers.

I can sure support a candidate who bought his wife a carry pistol. :^)

I get the impression Huckabee lives by the compassionate conservative philosophy we all wanted to see in Bush.

Although as a Canadian I have no vote concerning the crowning of your new Chief , I have found Huckabee a interesting candidate to follow. I do not agree with him everywhere but I do think is a true blue compassionate conservative, that has a heart which turns off fiscal conservatives and even some Christians . He will not win the nod but he will I think make life interesting for Romney and McCain.

I see Huckabee as a leader who has actually accomplished something more than just pretended that he is a conservative.

Like Thomas Oden wrote about a number of years ago, the difference between Washington and Moscow, and now we could include Beijing, is negligible. All are pretty much philosophically materialists, with the west, especially the US, enamored with pragmaticism.

As I have listened to Huckabee on a number of occasions, he actually sounds like someone who seeks to serve, rather than posturing etc.
