Issues, etc., update

HT to Pastor Bryan Wolfmueller, whose district president Randal Golter, of the Rocky Mountain District, received this statement from synodical president Gerald Kieschnick and released it with his permission: “The KFUO decision transpired with my awareness but neither by my order nor at my direction.”

HT to the Wittenberg Trail for passing along this message from the fired host, Todd Wilken:

“My thanks to everyone who has been so generous and supportive. Thank you for demonstrating such brotherly concern toward me, Jeff and our families. We are encouraged by everyone’s Christian compassion and friendship. Everyone, go to church. Eat and drink the body and blood of Jesus. Celebrate His death for us. Await His resurrection. It’s Holy Week – the best week of the year.

Go here to sign an online petition urging the powers that be to put the show back on the air. I was #1,999 and the number of signers is soaring.

I was 812. It is now well over 2000. I am glad Kieschnick is not involved. I sent an email to him yesterday asking him to intervene and restore the show. I pray he does.

Yes! This puts him in the position to do just that, to respond to the pleas of his people. It would be a great unifying and healing gesture. He should be approached in those terms.

I was going to say something about how fitting it is for an earthly prince to wash his hands on Good Friday. But if he is truly innocent of all this, then he is still in position to turn things around and it might restore some confidence in him.

I sent a note to Pres. K. I hope you will get more of a response than I did. The response I received from an assistant was that my email would be forwarded to the Board for Communication Services.

    #333!
I did hear back from David Strand. I was ‘invited’ to stay tuned to KFUO in the hopes I might enjoy any replacement programs.
But no replacement, no matter how good or edifying, can undo what was done.
Of course, we remember that we are still free to proclaim, and bound to do so, as are Wilken and Schwarz. We are not yet hearing from the stones!
Wouldn’t Good Friday be a fitting day for all responsible to repent of this action?

If Kieschnick knew this was going to happen, but didn’t do anything to prevent it, what does that say about his leadership?

And hey, isn’t the Board for Communication just doing a wonderful job in communicating why the decision was made and who made it? This is truly a case study for disastrous PR/communications. Which is good, because this miserable, evil action is blowing up in their faces.

Keep up the pressure! Send an email every day to synod leadership (including GK) until Issues, etc. is restored or we are at least given a good explaination for what happened.

My reading of the statement by Kieschnick makes me think that removing Issues Etc. has been in the planning stages with K’s knowledge and passive approval for some period of time. The fact that there was no programming prepared to replace Issues, makes me think that something happened to expedite the plan prematurely.

As I read the blogs on this subject, I wonder if there is a tendency to try to put a best construction on a situation where it is not wise to do so. There are a lot of facts available that waddle like a duck and quack like a duck. I think it might be wise to recognize that we’re looking at a duck and prepare accordingly.

Jane and Organshoes: I recieved the same notes from the same parties. I am sure they realize though how many people they are upsetting. Everyone sign the petition. We may see action yet.

I have not yet received a response to my 2 emails to Kieschnick. I don’t really need a response if he restores the show today.

My wife and I both received the same poorly written apology email from Mr. Strand. Anybody else get that one? I can’t tell you what it said due to the confidentiality clause that was in there. But it was short, terse, and inane.

Just fix this and bring back Issues Etc. my dear LCMS. You can do it President Kieschnick!

    Bryan,

I got the same response. Awfully tepid and quite unsatisfying.

I’ve heard some talk of a live protest at the Purple Palace.

By the way, the Issues, Etc. issue just got published on National Review magazine’s blog, The Corner, by Mark Hemingway, one of their contributors who is a Missouri Synod man.
He’s advertising the petition, with a link.
I, like Mr. Hemingway, doubt that those perpetrators of this deed had little idea what reaction they’d get–and exposure– by what they did. They had no idea of the absolute love folks have for the program and for Wilken and Schwarz. And we all know what love covers.
They’ve made near martyrs out of men and a mission that were already heroic.
It ain’t over. It may not end to our satisfaction, but it ain’t over.

I just checked with KFUO, and Issues Etc. Has not yet been given the go ahead to return to broadcasting by Pres. Kieschnick. So you laymen, please keep flooding Mr. Strand with Phone Calls and emails. I’ve got to keep preaching the Word this weekend. But I just know that Kieschnick can fix this by the end of this day. It’s good Friday, what better opportunity is he going to get?
If we are a church body that is responsive to the needs of the world, then here is our opportunity to prove it. By the way, I bet Wilken and Schwarz could use a raise.

Evidently, the Board for Communications did not know about this either. Maybe they can meet and correct the problem.

I have had no responses from either Strand of Pres. K.

    Let’s see now.
    KFUO didn’t make this decision.
    Kieschnick didn’t make this decision.
The Board for Communications did not know about this either.
Who is left who could actually do this?
    I honestly don’t know.

We don’t know at this time who the human culprit is in this decision, but there’s no doubt that the old evil foe
has his footprints all over it! The father of lies can’t stand to hear the truth taught on Issues Etc. and most
esply hates the constant refrain, “Christ-centered, cross-focused”! Let’s pray that the program is restored and with the SAME host and producer!
Christ is risen! He is risen indeed!

This was a political “hit”pure and simple. ( I used to work for a mega church and recognize the M.O.)
Not to rain on anyone’s parade, but I hope Todd and Jeff can start their own show , not obligated to or in any way under official Synodical control. There seems to be a large groundswell of support in that direction. May it come to pass.

#3593. What a horrible way to start an Easter Morning. I intend to make a motion at our church council to demand our annual support of Issues Etc be returned from KFUO, prorated for 2008. I suggest that those who are able do the same.
I agree with Patrick Kyle. If this is truly as ugly as it appears then KFUO has lost the right to even have the show and gain support from Issues listeners.

I was #3506, so there is a groundswell. Will next email the synod pres. and anyone else I can think of.
