Opening Day. . .

when hope springs eternal in the human breast, as everyone’s team begins in first place. I stayed up late watching the Washington Nationals in their new stadium play the Atlanta Braves. It was a good game that the Nats won in the last inning when Ryan Zimmerman hit a walk off home run. My resolution this year is to try to follow and be for the Nationals, since I now live in the D.C. area and feel a community obligation to support the local team. I’ll still pull for the Milwaukee Brewers, but I will watch Nats games on TV, check their box scores every day, and go to some games if I can get tickets (which, I am told, may not be easy in this first year of a new stadium).

So the floor is now open for optimistic predictions. ESPN pundits were predicting that the Cubs would be in the World Series! Don’t I hear that every year?

We’re all in favor of supporting our local team, but we are half-way between Baltimore and Washington. Oh what conflict! We’ve been supporting the Orioles. We also really enjoy cheering on the Frederick Keys, one of the farm teams for the Orioles. They play right down the street from us!

Then again, I am a Michigander in heart. Go Tigers!

Take me out to the ball game,….

The Twins will have a tough year, but hope says these young guys will suprise.

I also predict that 8 inches of snow will in no way effect Twins Home opener… this year.

My wife has choir practice tonight, but our 10 month old daughter will be watching with Daddie.

Your jumping ship on the Brewers should put them over the top. Per your logic in your post regarding Kansas basketball I suspect you may have been a factor in the decades long dry spell for the Brew Crew.
Or maybe it was the lack of hitting and pitching.

It is curious how human beings (me included) in the observers chair convince themselves their actions can affect outcomes. In example, the way the bench players lock arms during a teammates free throws in the closing seconds of a close game.

Another Minnesotan missing baseball today. My son’s JV game just got cancelled…in fact all games until Thursday due to snow. I predict my son’s team will do better than the Twins, but we’re fans no matter what.

I’m going to try to get out your way to visit my Vienna sister this year; if so, we’ve GOT to take in a Nats game! I’ll be checking stub hub, etc, for tickets.

The Brewers, I fear, are going to suffer from another year of poor pitching. But maybe, just maybe they’ll sneak into the post season.

Yes, people say “this could be the year” every year for the Cubbies, but generally they are not working for ESPN. :^) I don’t think that even the Chicago sportswriters were saying “this could be the year” except in jest for a lot of those years.

Sheets is throwing a nice game against the Cubbies right now, as I sit in front of the tube…but I have Zambrano on my fantasy team, so guess who I’m pulling for today.

Our household is divided between my wife’s native Mariners sensibilities and my love for the Angels as a CA transplant to WA via IN. Looks like they’ll be contending for the top spot in the AL West this year.
