Idol post mortem

As for “American Idol” and its big showdown between the two left standing, I think David Cook is the superior talent, but David Archuleta did out-perform him last night and should be proclaimed the winner tonight.

I appreciate Archuleta for this: Although he sang the execrable John Lennon song “Imagine,” he left out the atheist verse (“Imagine no religion. . . Above us only sky”).

I voted for the first time ever. Five times for David Cook. :)

Could it be any more obvious that the show wants Archuleta to win?

I’ve been an Archuleta fan all along. As the top 12 has dwindled down, I’ve assumed that it would be between the Davids. I’ve grown to like Cook more and more. As far as talent goes–they’re both good, but they sing in different styles. I’ve had to watch most of the show through youtube since all of our church meetings are on Tuesdays, and the hatred coming from people on that site blows me away! If you don’t like rockers, then you don’t like Cook’s style. If you don’t like pop, then you don’t like Archuleta’s songs. But, realizing that Archie has been singing his whole life and that he’s only 17–he’s pretty amazing. And, then realizing that Cook tried out on a whim (he was there to support his brother who was trying out) and has made it this far, but is still an amazing singer–well, I don’t know where I was going in my thought, but I’m happy if either one wins. Post Idol, both are going to have amazing careers, no matter what.

So, I hereby (and unforunately, am not the first to do so) declare the winner to be David!

But Cook was off key a lot last night. Am I the only one who noticed?

    Judy,

I agree that Cook sounded a little off and looked distracted last night. I think he’ll still pull it off. Dial Idol (a measure of busy signals) has him beating Archuleta by a large margin.

I heard a very apt comparison of David Archuleta and his father to Mozart and his father, not that there can be any comparison to the genius of Mozart but to the similarity of the father-son relationship in both child prodigies.

There will be great sorrow in Utah if Archuleta loses as TK seems to predict. He’s our boy!

However, last night I voted twice for Cook on behalf of my daughter who said “You can’t just vote for David Archuleta because he’s from Utah, Mom!”
