This mother had an abortion at 8 weeks. Eleven weeks later, she found out that she was still pregnant. Somehow the early abortion missed the baby, which reportedly happens with some frequency. The mother was “delighted.” The baby was born and, despite the original fears of a birth defect, is going to be fine. Read this article: Mother’s anger turns to delight after her baby survives an abortion. Here are the two survivors:

The article doesn’t reveal anything that would lead me to assume that her heart has been changed, but articles don’t often do that. Also, I think that she won’t be able to keep this news from her child. How will he deal with the news of his mom’s early “choice”?

I am glad that it looks like Mom is happy to have a baby, but this statement is really the mindset that we have to overcome:

“‘Deciding to terminate at eight weeks was just utterly horrible but I couldn’t cope with the anguish of losing another baby,’ said Miss Percival, 25. ”

This mother has obviously been taught that a baby isn’t a baby while still in the womb. This woman was actually willing to kill a child to avoid the chance that the child might die. Sad.

C’mon, folks. A woman decides, against lots of pressure, to have her child, and remarkably she finds no encouragement from the tut-tutting pro-life audience of this blog. Let’s tell her how happy we are for her and her baby. And let’s hope that when her child finds out that his mother, when it counted, saved his life, that he loves her all the more.

Not to mention the small detail that Finley was at least the second child born to Ms. Percival and Mr. Crampton, yet he is only her “fiance”. I guess it’s good that they are at least planning to get married.

I agree with J B on this one. He who is without sin cast the first stone. The rest of us sinners should rejoice that Finley and his mother that he has been spared his life, and his mom is repentant. To many soon to be mothers despair at the burden they think the baby might cause, and have an abortion. Here is one of those mom’s who has found out just how wrong she was, and that there is great joy in motherhood.

Good point, JB and Bror. She could have elected, at 20 weeks, to have a second abortion procedure, but something (Someone) brought her up short, and hopefully she is forever changed as a result.

I am gratified, as well, that this story was highlighted by a media which is normally loath to report anything that might reflect a pro-life perspective. Hopefully, this story will give pause to other parents struggling with a choice of whether to terminate a baby’s life because of a fear of a defect or disease.

The story makes me wonder whether she was carrying twins, and only one was aborted.

Kyralessa – I asked a friend of mine who is a nurse and he said that it is not uncommon for early abortions to fail and that many follow up visits lead to a second attempt at killing the child.

My earlier comment was not meant as an attack on this woman – I was trying to point out the view that this woman had (its is better to murder the child in the womb because that is somehow not a death versus having a child who dies young) as an example of the huge uphill battle we are facing.
