John the Steadfast

The new organization supporting the new “Issues, Etc.” program is being named Brothers of John the Steadfast. I like naming things after people like that (he said from the Cranach blog). Here is a great account of who John the Steadfast was–the brother of and successor to Elector of Saxony Frederick the Wise, literally the first “protestant,” and the Prince who really protected and cultivated the Reformation–by Martin R. Noland. Picture by Cranach:

I, for one, am very happy there are Lutherans still willing to extol, defend, and promote historic Lutheranism among Lutherans, regardless of where the princely powers would take us.

Why couldn’t they all just get along. I mean coming from a typical religious guy myself, i must say that art in church just brings more beauty, peace, and life to sermons, and lessons. It’s a way of showing people that art has a lot of power. So honestly i guess i would have to reform that Luther was my man.
