The secularists’ last things

ABC is sponsoring a big conclave of scientists who are saying that this might be the last century of our civilization or even of the human race. See ABC News: Earth 2100: This Century Our Last?

At least people don’t believe in progress anymore. Notice how we now have a secular apocalyptic millennialism to go along with the religious kind.

Some scientists think we might survive, though, and keep evolving until we are all connected into a vast sphere surrounding the sun, whereupon we will go from galaxy to galaxy consuming everything we find. See this review of The Year Million. The supermind we will evolve into after a million years is described as being “so vast and unknowable that we might as well call it God.”

We get to be God! That’s been the fantasy ever since the Serpent put it into our minds at the very beginning.

Scare tactics to match any premillenial Left Behind scenario you can come up with.
It is ironic that after all of the crying by science apologists that religion has no place in science, scientists themselves are finding a new religion. At least, it takes a lot more faith than I have to buy what they’re peddling.

“At least people don’t believe in progress anymore”. As if that’s a bad thing, to believe in progress? Technology has progressed faster in the past decade than any time in our history. We are incredibly blessed. We have, as a society, never been healthier, better fed, or wealthier than we are now. Optimism is a sign of contentment in our circumstances, which is a spiritual strength. It is the evil one who makes us fearful and pessimistic, and socialistic secular humanists play on our fears to increase the size and scope of government to serve as our substitute spiritual leader.

Bruce hit it right on the head.

A news network bringing us the worst possible (almost) news, that isn’t news at all, but a lot of imagining. What a public service.
It appears they have nothing but peril on their minds. No surprises there.
And the book! So little regard for the reality of human nature being what it is.
Who needs all this? What a useless pursuit for brilliant minds.

I hate to break it to the scientists on the fact that in a million years we will evolve into God, but Joseph Smith had them beat on that idea by 200 years.
