Hu's on first

The Dodgers are in town, on the verge of giving the Nationals their 100th defeat. I was pleased to learn that the team from L.A. has a player from Taiwan named Chin-lung Hu. I’m sure Southern California is already sick of the Abbott & Costello possibilities, but there is no reason the rest of us shouldn’t indulge in that sketch again, now that we really can say, “Hu’s on first.”

Why is this so funny?

Good question. By today’s standards, it probably can’t be funny: No sex, bathroom references or other vulgarity, and no insults or sarcastic putdowns.

It’s mainly finely-tuned and highly creative wordplay, combined with exquisite timing.

When they were in grade school, my 2nd and 3rd children memorized this and performed it in the school talent school.

It will always be funny. It could probably be funny in different languages.

Oh, boy! I cried laughing as I saw this.

    Why is it funny?
Well, I’ll ditto Jeff. This should be watched by every comedian. The timing and wordplay are essential. Abbott & Costello had always done this along with a little slapstick humor they have become my favorite comedians.

I have never seen this entire skit before, only the part where they talk about who, what and I don’t know. But you just can never leave out the rest. It is hilarious! My favorite part is the part when they start saying, “naturally”. This is just awesome. I also agree..this will ALWAYS be funny. Thank you, Dr. Veith, for sharing this.

My guess is that the place you will see the wittiest comments about Mr. Hu is on Sports Center. I don’t even know what the comments would be, but it just makes me smile thinking about it. :)

Maybe the Nationals could use some new baseball talent on their side like this Minor League Fresno Grizzlies ballgirl.

Always a classic, I always loved the play on words. In reference to #1, I knew there was a reason I don’t watch many modern comedies.

I do like this take on the classic Abbott and Castello

I was really disappointed that “Who’s on First” didn’t translate well into Serbian.
