Saturday blog

This has always been a week-day blog, but Stewart, who has been redesigning the site, tells me that the days of the week with the biggest blog readership, for some reason, are Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. He says I really need to post something on Saturdays to keep up our already soaring average number of visits. So OK, I’ll try to put something up on Saturdays. I’ll try to make it kind of different, maybe not so serious. So see you tomorrow!

I check in on Saturday because I don’t always get through everything during the week! Don’t get me wrong–more is better–but it’s not the reason I check in on the weekend. Thanks for the great site.

Can you schedule posts so that they appear on Saturday, even if you wrote it earlier in the week? I do that sometimes and I’m just using plain old Blogger.

You could make it like the WSJ weekend edition. Tells about a new beer, wine or whiskey you’ve tasted. Or a fine cigar you’ve smoked. You could investigate the resurgence of the pipe in the world of tobacco. Use the weekend post as a flip side to your normal focus on vocation.

Like econ Jeff, I check in on the weekend partly because I have been busy all week.

Also, sometimes your deepest posts occur near the end of the week, and a lot of good discussions are still ongoing. Sometimes a really great post on Friday leads to a great weekend discussion, and I’m kind of glad to continue to focus on it.

You can do all of that reading back in the week, of course, even if we have some posts on Saturday. Stewart did teach me how to write posts ahead of time for them to pop up later. I do that all the time. I’m thinking of provoking some lighter discussions, perhaps more open-ended, on the weekend. And also posting about books and the like that I have found interesting. I don’t know if I’m enough of a bon vivant to post about exotic tobacco-products and exquisite liqueurs I have quaffed. Maybe I’ll tell you about my favorite BBQ joints.

    Food! Yes! Books! Yesyes!

And I’m so glad you can post ahead–I would feel terribly guilty if our chronic reading was causing you to miss time with your family.

But hardly anyone comments over the weekend. Isn’t your goal usually to initiate conversation? Saturdays may have high readership numbers (people too busy during the week?), but I don’t think those people tend to join in once they do read.
