The Koran burning is off

The minister has cancelled plans to burn the Koran on Saturday, claiming a rather questionable quid pro quo:

The leader of a small Christian church in the U.S. state of Florida says he has canceled plans to burn Qurans on Saturday.  The minister’s intention to burn the holy book of Islam caused international outrage, including condemnation from President Barack Obama.

The Reverend Terry Jones said Thursday he has called off his planned protest because he has reached an agreement with Muslim leaders in New York to move a planned Islamic cultural center and mosque away from the area of the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States.

“The Imam has agreed to move the mosque,” said Terry Jones. “We have agreed to cancel our event on Saturday, and on Saturday I will be flying up there to meet with him.”

However, a statement from the cleric in charge of the New York mosque project said there was no agreement to move the location.

I just heard on the radio that all the Muslims involved in this are telling a different story from the one Jones is telling, and that, in response to the Muslim repudiation of his story, Jones is now saying that the Qu’ran burning may be back on.

Whether or not this burning takes place doesn’t interest me as much as the reaction to the burning does.

Our leaders can’t denounce this act strongly enough, but not ONE of them has spoken out against the actual burning of American flags in Afgan or the calls for killing Christians as a response to this.

Now we have the Iman telling us if he doesn’t get his way over the Mosque at Ground Zero, all hell will break out.

When will we stop enabling this? They are becoming our masters.

Nothing guarantees the continued and increasing tantrums of a spoiled child like scared, enabling parents and their refusal to stand up to the child. If our leaders continue to play the part of the pusillanimous, scared parent, the religion of peace is guaranteed to continue their tantrums and threats of violent retaliation for every imagined provocation.

This is a terrible cycle, and if we don’t stop this, they will in fact become our masters. It has already happened to a great degree in the U.K. And to me, this is the story of the proposed Quran burning and what it says about us. Nothing more. Nothing less.

Our leaders: “Watch my right hand wringing over here – pay no attention to what my other hand is busy doing behind my back.”

This is all just too sickening for words.

I don’t know about you, my friend, but Christ is my Master. No muslim will ever be. And if this koran burning would have been a stumbling block for missionaries and native Christians in muslim lands, in addition to endangering our long-suffering troops, then I’m glad it has been called off.

Hopefully, Jones will be arrested the moment he sets a match to a Koran. He hasn’t been granted a permit by the Fire Department. It’s poetic justice that firefighters wielding hoses and extinguishers – the brothers of the heroes of 9/11 – will end this before it really gets going.

So now a TN pastor says he is going to burn a Koran tomorrow. The copycatting begins, thanks to our leadership’s brilliant decision to make a big deal about this.

These attention seeking pseudo-Christian ignoramuses are involved with equating themselves with radical Muslims who routinely burn the Bible and American flags. They represent a fringe, nut-cake element that is embarrassing to Christendom.

J, at 12, maybe someday you’ll wake up to the reality that radicalMuslims, including Imam Rauf, are involved in a stealthy crusade to replace American and Western law with Shari’ah law.

Calling Don a bigot is not an argument; it is a crude ad hominem rant.

winston; well said on #5. My take is similar to Dr. Luther’s in the previous post on this topic; so they’re buying Korans in order to burn them. Well, I guess that benefits those who print them……but it’s an odd way to protest the book.

The resolution of the Koran burning controversy marks the beginning of the end of religious freedom in the United States. We all witnessed the spectacle of countless government officials bullying the pastor of a tiny church into giving up his constitutional right to burn a Koran. Imprisonment was an implied threat that openly promoted by conservative commentators such as Pat Buchanan and Bill O’Reilly.

All this stems from the decision by Congress and President Bush to establish syncretic Christianity, Judaism, and Islam as the state religions of the United States. Geopolitically, the growing influence of Papism, Zionism, and, above all, radicalized Islam had to be counter-balanced. What better method of controlling religion than by co-opting religion?

The downside, of course, is that the established religions begin to control government instead of the other way around. Syncretic Christendom and Judaism don’t want a Mosque at ground zero. The Muslims don’t want the Koran burned. Government must then persecute the non-established religions in order to maintain its control over the established religions.
